Mos Eisley Docking Bay 94 1/350 Diorama

Another project to add to my ever growing list is the Docking Bay 94 scene from ANH. I'm going to be doing this in 1/350 scale using Bandai's model vehicle kit 006 along with parts ordered from shapeways.

I found this video on YouTube that has a downloadable and playable docking bay 94 level. Extremely detailed and I'll be using it as reference for my diorama:

Here are the shapeways products I'll be using to complete this build:

I've ordered the Falcon and the interior parts already. I'm going to build it on a clear sheet of acrylic for easy viewing underneath. I'll sketch up some initial design ideas and post them here.

Anyway, this is going to be a fun and challenging experience and my first, complete diorama.

4453764[/URL]]Have you see Dorobou Hige's 1/350 Falcon and Docking Bay 94 build?

I have now.. That's pretty awesome and definitely gives me some ideas. I think I'm going to go with a cutaway version since I'm going to do mine with the ramp down. Lighting is going to be challenging but something I will definitely be doing. Now I have to start working on my 1/350 scale clay modeling skills! I think I'm going to do the scene where Han talks to Jabba.

Found some digital renderings from this site:

Looks to be relatively accurate. Thoughts?

Well. I'm not sure about accurate, per se.

In Star Wars (1977), we're shown a city back street leading to a doorway with 94 on the wall. Then we're shown the lower section of a staircase leading to an anteroom that opens up into the docking bay. Only half that docking bay was actually built owing to space limits of the studio, and the upper section of the bay was never built. Or even designed, as far as I can tell.

For the CGI-enhanced Special Edition we're shown the outer areas of a number of docking bays, and we're also shown the upper section of Docking Bay 94 as the CGI Falcon exits. This upper section includes a couple of cranes.

So that's it for canon as far as the films are concerned. There's also some external footage of Mos Espa in one of the prequels.

This walkthrough is a fan product, and certainly looks awesome, but it involves a lot of conjecture and expansion of ideas. All the catwalk stuff around the docking bay, the interior office areas, multiple stairwells, etc, etc - that's not based on anything from the films. The interior of the docking bay itself has simplified versions of the props with extra lights and so on, and the Falcon itself is a simplified version of the 32" Falcon, not the five foot Falcon from Star Wars or the full-sized set that was built for the movie.

So this 3D model is really fun, but I wouldn't say it's particularly "accurate" to the films. It all depends on what you're going for, really.

That is some excellent observations! I think I will tone down the interior to make it more screen accurate. I'm not going for 100% screen accurate, but still try to keep it close. Here's my layout so far. It's to scale as well:

That's an excellent reference. The only thing is that I'm going with more true to scale for the Falcon since the original set piece was not 'to scale'.

>Well, the Bandai 006 kit I received had the ESB version Falcon. Disapointing but I'll have to make it work.

That's ironic, since I just bought one of the 006 kits to see what the new undersaucer is like. And I ended up with yet another ANH version!
