Anakin Starkiller FX V2 - Aging Weathering & Stencil Tutorial (Master Thread)

Re: Anakin Starkiller FX V2 - Aging Weathering & Stencil Tutorial

Apologies if this has been covered somewhere but in regards to the clamp, Roman has bright satin ot matte options. Which clamp would be better to start with and would you a14 the clamp as well or just take it down with steel wool?

With the celebration 7 photos I heavily weathered the clamp. But now with Brandon’s Facebook profile photo you can see the clamp is in much better shape

I personally like the satin finish with a light acrylic wash. But this is just me

And you gotta add the Kylash scar on the clamp, why because it’s just so damn cool!!

Moving up the neck on my build...

I knocked the color and “shiny new aluminum” of the neck with a chemical and paint wash...

I think I went the wrong direction with the neck. I don’t see any evidence of a metallic type of paint on the neck...more of a muddy dark brown.

I knocked it down with a black wash and then hit it with a dark brown but I am not sure about the results. I may be doing a “do-over” on the neck.

Halliwax, what is your opinion regarding the proper neck color?

Personally I think it's looking really good where you've got it right now.

You don’t think I went too far in the brownish/cooper color?

Maude note...I just spied a stencil but I hadn’t removed.

Maybe it's just a touch too coppery. But I think you're pretty darn close.

He has a tutorial and video precisely on this topic on the first page. ;)

OK I went ahead and stripped and repainted the neck. I’m a lot happier with it now. Thanks again to referring me to the tips and tricks from Halliwax on this issue Trooper Trent!

I’ve added the gaffer tape as a “sleeve” meaning the saber facing side of the tape has been lined with another material to remove the ability for it to stick to the saber and it now just slides over the neck, allowing the emitter to rotate freely like the original. I also “ratted it up” and will be aging it some more today to try to make it look more like 30+ year old gaffer tape.

How the original tape is still hanging onto the neck of the saber is beyond me
