Update:

Here's a video where you can see the sound module in action :
https://flic.kr/p/JWnp5J

Here's more info, if you want to make it yourself :

Step 1 : Check this page and choose which one you want :
https://bigdawgsgreetings.com/product-category/sound-modules/push-button-modules/

I choose this one, with one push button : https://bigdawgsgreetings.com/product/bare-usb-push-200-sec/

You also have :
With 3 push buttons/usb : https://bigdawgsgreetings.com/product/diy-push-3-buttons/
With 5 push buttons/usb : https://bigdawgsgreetings.com/product/bare-usb-5-button-multipush-200-sec/

Step 2 : Download the sound loader software
https://bigdawgsgreetings.com/soundloader-download/

Step 3 : Connect to your pc through usb
( Only Windows xp, Windows Vista and Windows 7 supported.
Windows 8 has mixed results, Windows 10 doesn't work )

Upload your multiple sound clips, 20 maximum.

Have fun !!!

Hello proffesional prop builders,

With the upcoming Life Size Chucky doll from ToTS,
I thought it would be cool to add a voice box or sound module for all his phrases.

I've seen voice boxes with button control and also with motion sensors.

As I am a complete newbie when it comes to this,
I would like to have your thoughts/experience on this.

Probably some of you have the same idea as me for the Chucky doll.
You guys know what is best.

So what's the best/simplest/affordable/easy to order
and what are the differences between a sound module and voice box ?

I hope you experts can help me with this.

Thanks in advance.

Greetings,
Soxbrother

Looks like we had the same thought ;) I did a little research and found this voice box, which seems promising http://invitebyvoice.com/products/recordable-sound-module-for-stuffed-animal-inserts

I saw that in the comment section on the kickstarter page,
was that your comment ? ;)

I found this one, but maybe that would be too creepy ?

But maybe there ar smaller ones available ?
The experts in here would know what's best with their experience.

Seems that most of such devices are either on Alibaba.com or Aliexpress.com.
Somehow, I don't trust those websites.
There must be other websites, hopefully.

No, I haven't commented on the Kickstarter page, but I think a few people have had the same thought about adding a voice box. I hadn't even thought about a motion sensor, but it would be super cool (and creepy) if it started talking when someone walked past :lol

Edit: Oh look, I thought it was custom, but it's available right here:

http://www.electronics123.com/shop/...yer-with-buttons-speaker-and-battery-box-8635

From the FAQ :

"This module only supports one sound file per button. You can load 4 sound files in total, and depending on which of the 4 buttons are pressed, the specific sound file for that button will be played back. If you need multiple sounds per button see the FN-BC20 or FN-BC10. Also the USB5M supports more than one sound file per button."

So I assume we're going to need
one of the other models.

I'm a bit worried about its highest supported sample rate being 12KHz, since my audio files are 44.1KHz.

Listen here :

Sounds decent if you ask me.

It supports a higher sample rate and allows multiple sounds per button.

The BigDawgsGreeting's one allows 20 sounds to the button.

I've sent them an email and also a message through ebay,
asking them if the files are being played sequential or random.

I also hope some more RPF members chime in,
to share their experience.

What about this one, it's very small, but I fear not small enough :

Maybe take it apart, to make it smaller ?

Update: I thought it was a good idea, but you always have to connect to it first and you do that by pressing the button on the speaker itself,
so if you were to hide the speaker in Chucky's clothing (if that is at all possible ?), you always would have to take it out first.
I don't think you can leave it on all the time, especially since the battery time wouldn't be that much.
So that idea is down the drain, along with probably every other mini bluetooth speaker.

Look here for a video :

So I guess the 200s soundboard is still the easiest idea for me.

Still waiting a reply from them, will update the thread if I have news on that.

Update about the bigdawgs board.

This is the reply I got :

Sounds will be played back in sequential order. It does not 'reset', so it will play the next track even if the button is not pressed for a few days.
Unfortunately we do not have any modules that can play randomly.

So no random playback, I think that was to be expected.
But it remembers where it was, do that's a plus.

Would a shock sensor would be a good idea or better yet a voice activated sensor (https://quasarelectronics.co.uk/Category/kits-modules-sound-activated-relay-boards),
like in the movie ?

Which sounds would be good for the doll ?

I was thinking to put all of the good guy doll sounds on it, but realised that there aren't many.
If I remember correctly you only have 3 sounds then :
- Hi, I'm Chucky and I'm your friend till the end. Hi-de-ho! Ha, Ha, Ha!
- Hi, I like to be hugged.
- Hi, I'm Chucky. Wanna play ?

Ok, the sounds are from Child's Play 1 and the doll is from Child's play 2, but I don't mind that at all :lol
Otherwise we'd only have angry Chucky sounds on it.

What other phrases are you going to put on it ?

As far as I can tell, those are the only phrases that the Good Guys say (I've only checked the first two movies though), so that's what I'm going to stick with. So far I have clean sound clips of "Hi, I'm Chucky and I'm your friend to the end..." and "I like to be hugged," so I just need "wanna play?" and I'll be all set. I may have to clip that one out of the movie, since I can't find it available for download anywhere.

A voice-activated sound module would be the most movie accurate. The microphone might not pick up voices through the clothing though, although they do say you can adjust the sensitivity.

I don't have the expertise to connect that voice activated board to the sound module. :(

From bigsdawgsgreetings, allthough this one is not for sale from their online store (unless you order 50 pcs) :

Would be great though.

They do sell a 10s shock sensor module, but that only plays one sound.

I've emailed them asking if maybe there is a way to combine the shock sensor to their 200s sound module.

Here's the 10s shock sensor module
