Animated AT-IC (All Terrain Ion Cannon) Legacy Conversion & Scratchbuild

Hey everyone!

Well the newest project is/was to take a Legacy AT-AT, cut it up, then scratchbuild an Ion Cannon that was controlled by an Arduino setup that would make the cannon move and light up. Then paint the whole thing, ect.

So, like always I forgot to post up as I went along, so here's the finished project, and then I'll start at the beginning.

I started by cutting up the AT
40912367984_71479cefc7_b.jpg

After that, I started to fabricate the backbone of the ion cannon, and figuring out how the servo would move.

Then started working on the base

So after that, I started the greeblie work, trying to figure out the aesthetics
39815310820_2377ce330d_c.jpg

After I confirmed everything would clear, I set it up so the swing would run past itself, so the recoil would have a little bounce to it. Then I started making the side panels. I had to work backwards for a bit, because I couldn't to the other side yet.

Here was the first test fit. The frame of the IC is aluminum, so it's a bit heavier than it looks...

Then the other side with the heat grills

Fabricating the side guns

To be continued.....

Ok, so after that it was time to make the cover panel that would hide the arduinos and the breadboard and wiring.

41622793681_13c0498127_c.jpg

Once I knew that the parts were all going to work together and that the electronics survived all the fiddling, I attached the base. I had already painted everything, and began weathering the pieces individually.
41622793521_2381b26b4f_b.jpg

I then wired up the "power inverter", which is the center of an old F6F vacuum tube. Greeblie'd, paint, ect were done.
39815310090_88c7825b73.jpg

Started running tests on the timing programming on the motor, and hammered out the circle lighting. It does a charge mode, stasis, and energy crackle. Ended up settling at motion every 8 seconds.

So then I finished up greeblies, paint and weathering, then CAREFULLY assembled the parts. It's very large, and very unwieldy. And heavy. Had a BLAST doing this one, I think I'm gonna slow down and do a B-Wing.
You can follow me in Instagram, I post up all kinds of stuff while I'm working.

Was this an EU thing, or something you just made up yourself? At first I was like, "Hmm, this is an odd mashup", but looking at the results, it's magnificent! I would totally feel comfortable seeing that on film.

I'm with Keycube on that one too; comfortable seeing it in an episode for sure. Very cool work and the details are the bomb:cool

It was a concept drawing, and Kenner made a prototype in the 80's that they never released....
