Build Thread for my take on the ROTJ Luke Lightsaber (fully machined)

It's not that a Bridgeport can build anything, it's that it can build what's needed to build anything.

Even Adam Savage agrees: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3735B42v-wI

I Couldn't find the exact triangle D-ring so I just needed to make a triangle D-ring bending jig. And it works awesome!!

Down side, was rather excited and didn't pay enough attention when drilling the holes for it and they came out a bit lopsided.

How on earth did you make that?!?!

I’ve been making something like that out of hard wood, I’m on my 5th or 6th version. Now with oak, but would love to make one out of steel lol you did

Absolutely mind blowing!!!

If you see where Adam was cutting the groove in the plastic in his video, like that except it was in steel and I rotated the vice 60 degrees in each direction after cutting a side. I'll try to do a more detailed pic setup and maybe some re-enactments if you're really interested. If I had my camera I would have done some video of it.

I'm going to pick up some supplies and try to pick up a gopro camera, if all goes well I'm going to start doing a run of at least 5 of these, with one uniq bonus each one will have a video of it's parts being machined, milled, shaped, punched, drilled or bent. Of course many parts will be done at the same time so the videos will likely have a lot of overlap. If it doesn't work out well there will at least be one video covering all the parts for all 5 of the first run.I'll have to find a way to track all the parts. I do have a stamp set maybe they'll all be numbered.

Didn't get the gopro today, going to have to wait until next week I guess. I did pick up a steady rest for the lathe on ebay that was pretty cheap. It was of unknown make and for unknown lathe, but the size was right. It showed up and didn't fit, but I have a Bridgeport :) about 3 hours of milling later I had an adapter plate and now it fits perfectly.

In case you want to know what a steady rest is and what it's used for here is a really amazing, interesting and exciting video:

Some minor'ish setbacks this weekend. Not having my camera I didn't want to start the production run just yet. Was working on some of the details and broke a tiny tap inside my control box. :cry :facepalm

My own fault, tiny tap, didn't have the right size drill, tried to tap it with a slightly smaller drill job. stupid stupid stupid.

Anyway here are some pics of prototypes I and II.

I’d be interested in a tri ring jig if you make anymore of those!

Not sure I want to make another one of those, the setup for each side is a bit of a pain. Maybe once I've made some of the costs back and don't need to do production work.

started taking some videos with my phone while I wait for my new camera to get here. I was able to complete 5 of the end tips for the emitter tonight. Was kind of fun getting the video. Now I have to get them all stitched and published.

This is what was accomplished last night. Video still to come over the weekend.
