The Shocker

Been wanting to do my own version of the Shocker for a while now, a mixture of all my favourite versions while keeping it more grounded and less comicbooky so to speak. Something that a normal person could put together with limited help and not something Billionaire or military made.

So armed with the overall look I was going for ( More leaning towards an evolving version of the MCU version) my first point of call were The Vibro-Smashers. In the comics they are not just ranged weapons but increase the Shocker's Strength by 12 which is how he's able to trade blows with superhumans. I kinda wanted something with a bit of heft to it and not quite refined so opted for The Vibro-Smasher (Crossbone's surviving gauntlet enhance with alien tech) from Homecoming.

Using the Art of Movie books as the main reference points, the Gauntlests are largely made from 10mm, 5mm and 2mm eva form. i started adding 'real' items such as screws, nuts and washers as they give them a more believable look.

not gonna lie they are absolute beasts. I do plan on adding all the lights after the main stuff is done.

And here's the point to where i'm at. As you can see i do plan on making them fold up too

This was something that I was going to do, but I won't get around to it.

So the yellow coat actually came and it's absolutely amazing, it has the diamond pattern plus a whole host of other details. I've thrown everything on so you all get a basic idea, nothing is weathered yet so it looks too clean but that will get sorted. The Jacket had the arms removed and will also get weathered. I'm kinda liking the rough tattered edges at the shoulders but people's opinions are welcome, does the grungy look look better or should it be tidied up?

Those gauntlets look pretty bad ass. at first glance it looks like some sort of attachment for a DSLR camera or something.

I know it would be going away from the artwork and the MCU but it might be worth considering keeping some parts of them black rather than going for an all steel look.
Just a thought. Looking forward to seeing the rest of this.

Thanks for all the feedback it's appreciated.

Finished the bulk of both hammerfists, luckily all the measurements lined up.

Annnnnd time for bad mirror selfies, managed to get the handle for one of the Vibro-Smashers screwed into place. Eagle eyed people will notice that it's attached to the outside of the gauntlet and not the inside like in Civil War and Spider-Man Homecoming. This is so it can retract back practically where as in the films it's a fake out how the gauntlet(s) fold back with the handle and the hammer fist both changing size, shape and place. Managed to balance the hammerfist on my fingertips so you can see the overall length of the gauntlets.

I see what you mean about the film's hammerfist "fake out".

Those gaunlets are some of the best I've seen, great job! Did you freehand/design the pattern yourself? How did you make the foundations for the gauntlet?

It's all freehand, I have both the Spider-man Homecoming and Civil War 'The Art of' books which tbh are invaluable. I used measurements from the books and scaled them up to fit my arm adjusting and resizing bits to take into account clearance issues with the inside of the elbow and general fitting issues as a whole.
The gauntlets themselves are built into and on top of a cylindrical tube of 10mm foam with the end towards the elbow just a bit wider than form fitting to bare skin as this provides a friction grip when a coat is worn.
Everything thing else is added with trial and error, one thing i did learn was just because a section is the correct size doesnt mean its actually the 'right' size, but i really wanted the fist part to have the curved profile, after doing it i can understand why people opt to just go for a half hexagon shape instead as it was a right pain to do

Quick update as i'm literally watching glue dry atm lol. A proper close up of one of the Vibro-Smashers as it drys. The top piston is held in with magnets so it can be removed when the gauntlet folds up, added the details to the handles and started work on where the side pistons will sit. At the stage now where measurements are vital as if they're wrong then the whole thing will look wonky when put together. There's lots of rough edges to clean but we're getting there.

So this is where I'm at, both Vibro-Smashers are about 80 percent done. The Side pistons need finishing as well as lots of details and then the electronics. lots of Heavy weathering needs to be done on the cloths. The mask I'm leaving till last as i'm still undecided which direction i want to take that in. As always suggestions are more than welcome.

UNCAVEN_Prev-6.jpeg

This is an appearance of the Shocker in Uncanny Avengers from the end of last year, kicking butt and actually helping save the day from Darkforce creatures, at his trial Rogue testified that he actual had a hero's heart and was just as worthy as any Avenger. A Prime example of how awesome the character is when written right, sadly two months later he appeared in Spider-Man and was written as a pushover goon.
Anyway I love this version of the costume and am thinking of including the lower amour parts to my build.

I love the costume so far, however I find the pants a somewhat 'easy solution'; I would also make the quilted pants like in the comics, but that's just me.
Aside from that and the pistons needing a paintjob I'd say you got it down right :thumbsup I'm voting this the best Shocker build ever.

Big Shocker update and quite a few developments.

So first of all this build has turned into a bit of a beast, with some new ideas with inspiration taken from these versions of the Shocker.

Taking a bit of a break from the Vibro-Smashers, I weathered the jackets with brown and black paints but also went over the yellow stitching with a black pen, not gonna lie it took forever!

Armour Parts: I love The Shocker's outfit in last years Uncanny avengers and wanted to add similar Knee and shin armour with working lights, the knees are pretty much done minus the lights.
s1.jpg

Helmet or Mask: Ok so I'm well aware this might divide some people but i wanted to do something not seen in other Shocker costumes so decided to build The Helmet the shocker will be sporting in the upcoming PS4 Spider-Man game. It started with a Worbla cast of my face with the foam parts added over the top, the lenses are yet to be fitted and room providing, im gonna try and have the eyes light up. I think i'm just going to go for a black Ski Mask to hide the neck as with both jackets having popped collars any detail on a neck seal will be largely hidden.

Annnnnnnnd here's what i got so far (minus the knees cos i forgot to put them on lol)
