FolkyPatrol's ROTJ V2 lightsaber

A long time ago... in fact in January 2017, I started a Luke ROTJ V2 3D model.

I had my 3D printer just a few months earlier and I wanted to give a shot to the V2.
Before I went on this project, lightsabers & blasters didn't interest... I was just a stormtrooper helmet lover.
I played a lot EA's 2015 Battlefront and sometimes in the game menu it was possible to see the ROTJ V2. And I thought "What a gorgeous lightsaber, that weathering, all that damage". Then, I don't remember how it happened but we talked about it with Benjo.

I began to love this saber, and I ran deeply in the V2's thread, I analyzed every reference picture, and then I started my model.

In the past year, I did 17 variants of my 3D saber, each one with a special detail (accurate or not). I did a prototype print and that was it. All the time spent in the modeling without getting the satisfaction I wanted.. I was tired of it...

Then a few months ago, Benjo gave me some motivation and, with some final tweaks, I printed him the V2. You'll see, it's not a common. We wanted it to feel real, heavy, battled. Thanks to morgan63, we managed to have 2 genuine cones knob from Michell Turntable, to make it look even better.

Now, it's time for me to give a shot to a printed V2 (BTW: I won't modify the model anymore). It will be a slow build since I'm not a great painter and I want to do it right :)

Here are shots of the model, and the print. I hope you'll like it :)
I also want to thank everyone who, somehow, helped me during the modeling :D

I remember Folky working on that saber, watching the « pop culture quest » video to catch all the details visibles on the original prop.
A few months ago he generously sent me a print of that saber and I loved it. I had the opportunity to test some painting techniques on it to make it look as real as possible.

From that, I've spent a couple of weeks sanding all the parts nice and smooth. Folky made his model hollow to put metal parts on it. I've used washers on a metal rod to ad weight and it worked great. The saber weights 700gr wich is pretty cool on hand.

To me, the most complicated part to paint was the graflex clamp. Once sanded and primered I've tried alumnium plumber's tape on that part and, suprinsingly, it worked pretty good.

All I had to do after that was sanding, sanding, primering,wet- sanding, primering, and so and so.....until the surface gets a satin finish

More to come soon :)...
