My V2 WIP build

So I recently picked up a second run Anakin Starkiller V2 from the junkyard and thought I'd document my build. Input and feedback welcomed y'all.

Here's the starting point:

So I chucked it in the dishwasher to take the shine off it and then started working on the emitter with some alu black and gentle scuffing, then applied trooper_trent's stencils and went at it, ending up with this:

cd52e75815662b124623c9320ddeb8b8.jpg

I don't think I've got the stencils lined up dead-on but I'm happy enough with it.

More to come...

OK, so I've been pretty productive! Today started with this:

One of my little buddies was with me for support. Actually, I think he was sunbathing but...

Now, I'm pretty confident that my stencil orientation is well off but never mind, I'm happy enough with it.

This stencil didn't meet up for some reason:

But I forged ahead applied the rest of the stencils the best I could and hit it with a nice coat of satin black:

Peeling the stencil was really satisfying to do:

Buddy #2 turned up to see what was going on:

The next part to tackle was removing the paint from the grenade rings. I tried scratching them off by hand but the paint was too hard. So I came up with this:

IMG_20180225_131000.jpg

Laziness is the mother of invention :D

And this is the result

The next job I wanted to tackle was the rod through the middle of the emitter. There's a little ding in the middle and a notch out of the edge - most probably from where the dueling blade was hacked off.

So I got my off brand Dremel out and went at it from this:

To this:

So this is what we've got so far

I've got a replica clamp coming next week, so I need to do that, pic up a slothfurnace card and install the mystery chunk.

Anyone one want to hold my hand mystery chunk-wise? I can't figure out exactly where it needs to go. Has anyone got an decent pics of blueprint's of where it goes?

Love v2 thread !!! [emoji7][emoji7][emoji7]

Curious to see if you success to bend part of the emiter ring like your reference picture (used to ding the rod). Tried it but with no luck. Did not have the tools too i must said ... :/

Thank you, thank you this is perfect!!!

I'm toying with the idea of bending the emitter but I'm a bit frightened I will ruin it. I think I may leave it as it is for now!

Not a great deal of progress, but I've done a tiny bit.

There was some discussion about the windvane part having a copper/ bronze tone to it, so I thought I'd have a crack at it.

To get the effect a used a bronze metallic Sharpie.

I coloured the black paint a small amount at a time and immediately wiped it off with a baby wipe. I'm quite pleased with how it turned out.

I'm also not convinced the tape around the neck is gaffer tape. It very well could be but gaffer tape is cloth based and has a texture to it but from the reference pics the tape doesn't seem to have a texture to it. Duct tape also has a texture to it so I don't think it's that either.

So in my search for non-textured tape I came across this:

It's called dance floor tape and could have been used in the prop industry. However, I'm not happy with this either as it's more like a vinyl wrap than a fixing tape.

I mean, it doesn't look bad but it's not quite right.

The trick is to wipe it off really quickly! It also works if you smear it on with a wet wipe. :)

So after making a right bugger up and drilling the hole too big, the mystery chunk is in.

I didn't have the correct tap, so for some reason I thought drilling a bigger hole would do it (don't ask my why!!). Anyway some metal filler did the job.

I've also done some weathering to the Graflex clamp but I'm not happy with it, I can't get the finish I want. From looking at the original prop pics, to me it looks like a dark stainless steel finish rather than chrome, so I'll have to revisit this.

Anyway this is how it stands:

Still to do: D-ring, clamp card, clamp lever and some general weathering.
