Started a new scratchbuilt project. The USS Nelson, a concept ship design from John Eaves for the Star Trek Online game:

It's a Defiant-class a like sized ship. Around 190m in length. So I decided to do it in 1/1000 scale tot match the PolarLights Defiant and Starcrafts Akira.

Started to flesh out the basic shape:

A little update.
I decided to lite the model up. So I make some holes for wires and LED boxes.

Also shaped the front and added the Main deflector

For the underside the housing for secondary deflector, sensors and backward torpedo lunchers

Very cool.

To be honest, I like the Defiant style as a one-off design, but not particularly "Starfleet" looking. (I like saucers and nacelles.) Your build might change my mind, though...

I like the "classic" Starfleet, too. But I love the uncoventional designs. It gives an idea of wide spectrum of the Starfleet services. So the Sabre-class and the Norway-class are next on my 1/1000 scratchbuild list.

My LED order is here, so I can start to light up the ship.
First the bussard collectors.
