Hey guys! I want to create this Superman suit for the 2018 Heroescon in my home town, but the upper body especially has me stumped. Any recommendations you guys can give on that, or for the rest of the suit? Thanks! IMG_0661.PNG

Hi Jack,

since this is a custom design,I would try and derive the shape(s ) from existing armor.
Have a look at websites such as papercraftplaza,papercraftsquare,pepakura.eu,models-resource and thingiverse.
I don't know much about sewing if that's your preferred method, but I think the templates could be used for that as well as cardstock/foam building.

The way that I would approach this is by working up a base pattern that fits your body and then sketching out the style lines. Then build it up using a heavy fabric like Cordura, backing it with a combination of 2mm foam and headliner and working stretch into the spaces between for movement. This would create an armored look that's also soft enough to allow movement for such a close fitting piece.

You could also consider making the sleeves on an undershirt and the rest of the chest/torso as a vest, which would allow even more range of motion. I've got several threads that outline this approach:

Also, check out sparton110's threads on Wolverine and Cap. He has some great threads on scratch foam building variant suits:

Hope that helps and hope to see it at Heroes this summer!
