I bought four or five samples and the terra cotta worked best. Dharma Trading Procion dyes are a joy to work with:

I tried Soft Orange, Orange Sorbet, and possibly Deep Orange. I dyed scraps on the stove till I got an orange I liked, and the contrasting herring bones went a darker shade of orange. I dyed all the fabric in the washer, the only downside was the pills.
 
Yeah, the coat...as you've discovered, there was a few "probs" with continuity regarding the coat: specially toward the end of the movie (much wear and tear...literally;))
You'll have to choose the version you like best:)
 
Has anyone done a build of his costume from the final scene of the final cut? With the Grey wool looking jacket/sweater?
