A New Hope blast shield helmet .

Well, I'm finally happy with my right hand comet graphic , but as there are no good screengrabs of the other side ( from new hope) I'm just going to have to guesstimate the left one .

I still feel my face shield needs to be further out at the very top edge, the more you compare to screengrabs, the harder it gets !!!!

Your truly nailing it.
I like how your taking your time to perfect it to your own standards.
Your dedication to this piece really shows.

At the moment it's got a stormtrooper style cloverleaf foam inside it , but I'll probably make something more "solid" as a lining , it needs to fit like in the movie...place on head , stay located ... all I need is Alec Guinness to place it there ...

It almost looks like the left side was done by a different artist ... thanks for the hi res pics , I'll try my best to duplicate it , including the different position on the crescent .
At the moment I'm trying to work out the exact size of the black knobs, I tried 12 mm diameter and they look too small , so,I've ordered some 18 mm rod to try that .

Finished the painting of the second comet . Still looking for the courage to start weathering !!!
The blast shield has been slightly re designed, but I haven't got one from the vac formers yet .
More plastic is ordered for the side knobs , hope I've got the right size this time .
Thanks for all the encouraging comments guys.

Very jealous, this has been on my prop bucket list for a long time. I've always thought this helmet was more iconic than even the Rebel Pilot's helmets.

Watching with interest. I've gotta find me a rebel helmet kit so I can have a go.

For now, I'm calling this finished .
I'm moderately happy with my paint job , I tried to copy the comets on the forehead from the screen caps, not overly accurate but a definite nod in the right direction . Good enough not to re paint , but if I were doing it again I'd try harder !
The original had weathering by airbrush , but I don't have one so had to resort to sponge and watered down acrylics.

I tried to copy the screen caps for weathering , the dark line up the left cheek and the black smear on the left top Mohawk , but generally just stippled it on and and wiped it off .

As to the blast shield, I'm definitely going to modify my mould for that , it's about ten mm too long and not wide enough at the bottom ...but that will have to wait a few weeks .

It looks fantastic! You pretty much have to make a training remote now. ;)

Yep...training remote is in the wish list . I may buy two e.m.a. Hemis and try to 3d print the greeblies. I remember someone on here doing the 3d files ...I'll have to search around .

I finally dug up the pictures I have of the prototype X-wing helmet. I still can't help but wonder if this visor and the blast shield were done at the same time, or maybe even the latter a modification of the mold for the former...

Thanks to Jez for the ones I got off his page. The others I can't remember where I scrounged them up. It was years ago...
