We had to create a negative socket to keep the mold skin to about 1/2" thick. Otherwise, the mold would have taken about many gallons of platinum silicone!

Lots of MDF carving in this one, all get various stone finishes. We used 10 pound urethane foam on flat areas, and dremels and die grinders on intricate areas.

Love MDF and what can be done with that stuff. Great work.

What have you used to get this stone effect?

There is a paint called "Multispec" which is very similar, though I make my own using carrageenan. Multispec is available in lots of different stone colors.
After the Multispec, I'm using some rustoleum "manhattan mist" and "sierra stone" for a bolder fleck and color variation. Then, pounce bags and a flat clear coat dusting to bind everything.
