Did Last Jedi inspire you for a new project?

Oh I see what you're saying. Interesting. I'll take another look

Zero aperture closes all the way and opens non-symmetrically, as seen in the film ring. The one in your prototype is a standard aperture.

Good call! I had a second look and you can clearly see it opening with a () shape instead of a o shape.

Thanks! I'll incorporate that into my next prototype.

Dang it I wrote a response and it went away. Take 2: there are so many cool prop possibilities.
I started (and basically finished) Phasma's spear before even watching the movie. Just to see it instantly overshadowed by the praetorian guards' weapons. They were just cool.
I'm a weapon guy so that's what I see most of. I didn't see what Maz had for weapons but when I see it again I can definitely see that also being a potential prop: blaster and grenades (or whatever that was need to watch closer. Edit: don't think grenades but I swear she had a jetpack)
I'm already thinking about Rose's Taser (and pendant is another one). Even though I promised myself no more soldering projects my mind it's gathering information so so quickly.
I see a lot of people are already working on the resistance ring. That's also cool (not my kind of project but still eye catching... same goes for the dice)
Leia's mutiny stopper blaster should be a good one to check out. (It's being called the same as the anh but I'm not sure if there are any mods or changes)
Roast porg on a stick. Anyone with a Chewbacca costume could use one.
Edit for additions: Leia's ring snoke's ring and I particularly like Holdo's ring (maybe for my girlfriend ) the gamblers red plum bloom (they said it a few times but I'm not sure that's what they actually said) broach
Benicio Del Toro's skeleton keys things in his arm band cross between lock picks and skeleton keys. Should be fairly easy to make a scrap sheet of tin +Dremel or tin snips+file and a sharpie to Mark the design repeat about 20 times cause he had a lot of them.
Casino coins should be cool for a couple of coin people that the rpf holds.
The split in half blue saber should be awesome too
Luke's flare Molotov cocktail what he wants to burn the tree down with.. I'm sure it'll have a name but I dunno it
Oh yeah last but possibly first. The Jedi books, Adam Savage on his podcast also saw them and geeked out on them too. That should be another fairly easy but awesome project.
Will I actually do them? Not all certainly. The ones that can be done fast and are intriguing. Lock picks and sacred Jedi texts. And maybe one long project roses taser maybe

Oh, definitely!! Despite what many people are saying, I really enjoyed the movie, and I spotted quite a few props I’d like to tackle at some point.

- Luke’s Jedi lightsaber
- Jedi Crusader necklace
- Luke’s compass
- Rey’s binary tracker/ beacon bracelet
- Rose’s ring
- Snoke’s ring
- Canto Bight coins
- DJ’s skeleton keys
- Paige’s bomb detonator remote
- Finn’s comlink
- Rose’s taser
- Luke’s walking stick
- Porg; because why not [emoji6]

It also inspired to get off my backside and finish my ANH Graflex build!

I really like the thought of building the halved graphlex, and was quite impressed with the Praetorian Guard’s weapons, especially the vibro-blades when connected. While I liked Han’s dice from the Falcon, that may be more of a sentimental urge, and not due to their prop “worthiness”... Just some thoughts.

Just received the correct zero aperture. It appears there are in fact two irises: one on the front, and one on the back that needs to be removed to create the ring. I'm hesitant to crack this thing open. Anyone know if simply dremeling off the back iris blades will affect the functionality of the front iris?

Went to see it again yesterday (prebooked tickets so couldn't cancel them) with the brief flash of movement before the ring opens I'm more inclined to believe its whats known as a Zero Aperture Diaphragm. Looking at the tell-tale markings on this version i think it's a better shout...maybe even an exact match?

My new one is at my house. I'm in SF and will be back tomorrow to grab it and get a closer look. My understanding is that it's two layers. It's so expensive to do destructive research but I'll take a whack at it. Lemme know what you learn!

I'm interested in the homemade Luke Skywalker action figure from the end of the movie. Someone asked me if I'd be interested in making a Canto Bight police uniform; I decided I'd rather do a Canto Bight stable-boy costume. I think Finn’s bacta suit would be hilarious. But I’m most interested in Luke’s Crait outfit; that’s the one I’m most likely to actually do.

working on that as we speak! :thumbsup

nickytea. I have opened the 3D CAD file of that zero aperture iris. From that I think if you do take it apart, then you could remove half the leaves. But you may have to replace them with something like a wave spring or shim to keep pressure applied against the other leaves. (Or they could be somewhat loose) Attached is an exploded view.
