Who thought it was a good idea to have a droid doing the ironing... Noooooooo!!!!!

It was an homage to the very first Star Wars spoof "Hardware Wars".

Just got back from a second viewing with friends who hadn't seen it yet and they all loved it. The stuff between Mark and Daisy and Daisy and Driver is really strong. Their performances were really solid and the mind games between Kylo and Rey compelling. I also really thick the Benicio character DJ and the choices he made in his performance. I hope he comes back for IX. I still feel the jokes were funny, especially when Fin tells Rose he knows where the escape pods are on the Supremacy and she responds "Of course you do." I also got a big laugh when the Falcon draws off the TIE's on Crait and Fin quips "They hate that ship!"

Canto Bite is a bit of an odd duck sequence but it really feels like an homage to Spielberg's Amazing Stories and it affords Rose to establish herself.

Not only that but getting it to run and jump over everything... Actually I'm laughing about how bad this really was.
Oh and since when have they ever had to keep their eyes on the fuel tanks?
Better not take the Millennium into that astro field your running on vapour!

It should have just been a new vehicle called an AT-S7 (All terrain superjumper seven) to go with the All terrain megacaliber six

You know what? the fuel was really the crux of it. The entire plot involving running slowly away from the first order was truly the biggest problem. Its the type of story that could work on a well written episode of BSG, but running out of fuel has only once been a conversation in Star wars.

As I was watching the movie I didn't really think too much about this, but after I got out of it and had time to go over everything in my head I was literally going "WTF, the First Order with all of their power and weaponry is now just waiting patiently for waiting for people to run out of gas?" That is beyond comprehension. :facepalm

so i want to know something canon wise.... i thought in TFA the republic signed a war treaty with the first order, making it so the first order cant make any military weapons... if the first order was secretly building star destroyers and planet size killer weapons

how does poe know of a dreadnought? did i miss a book where the republic knew of the first order building weapons?

The entire plot made no sense.

When the first order arrived, they focused all their firepower on the nearly evacuated ground base, rather than the capital ship in front of them.

Then after the jump, they started a tie fighter strafing attack which was quite effective. But then they pulled them back because they couldn't cover them from the distance?

Which is odd because the resistance fighters we're all gone.

For the entirety of this film, the resistance we're sitting ducks. And looked what happened in that time. Rey trained with Luke and finn went horse riding near a casino?

I loved the story but hated the plot. Does that make sense?

And when did Finn learn to be a pilot? The events of TFA were like, a day before he was piloting that speeder on krayt

when the chase first started i figured they would have the smaller star destroyers jump into hyper space, make a u turn and cut the rebels off head on, trapping them in the middle. i was super surprised this didnt happen and the chase continued

You'll have to break it down for me what you mean by story vs. plot because I just always assumed those two are the same thing. Regardless, how it was done certainly isn't what I would have chosen for the middle film of a trilogy. There are so many things that could have been done better and with the right changes this could have been a truly epic SW film. As it stands now, I'm trying to figure out where I'd rank it overall in the saga. It's probably 5th or 6th which is a colossal disappointment for me. :(

I’ve been watching lots of reviews online and on YouTube and the one thing I can’t figure out is the negative ‘Leia Poppins’ mentions.

Last time I checked:
- Mary Poppins is awesome
- Everyone loves Mary Poppins
- Being compared to Mary Poppins is a compliment and an honor

Like people should be saying “When Leia did her Force-fly in space back to the ship that was awesome ! Just like Mary Poppins !!”

It's weird for me, the prequels let me down, so I've learned to be cautious. I didn't mind TFA (didn't blow me away by any means), really enjoyed Rogue One, but this, TLJ, it kinda hurts a little. I love SW, I was born in 74 and grew up on it. It's always been there for me, Star Wars owes me nothing, but I left the theater feeling empty. Not angry, but disappointed, sad, and just empty. I know that, for me, nothing will ever live up to the OT. I understand expectations are so high for this franchise they'll almost always be impossible to meet, but I genuinely felt sad after watching that.

Story is what happens to characters and what they do, plot is HOW they do it.

ANH story: Farmboy joins rebellion and begins his Jedi journey.
ANH plot: a battle results in a message that is picked up by a farmboy and he goes to a bar and meets a pilot and they go to the death star and rescue a princess but the old guy dies and they go to the rebel base and discover how to blow up the space station and they send 30 ships and blah blah blah.
