I'm looking forward to Solo, open minds :)

Also, Wow.
I hardly ever came on the entertainment bit of the rpf but this stuff fascinates me now.
So many different expectations. So many mixed up reactions.

Is there anything we are going to make?
Ships?
Props?
I'm going to make a Jedi rock and make it float with magnets.
That or a porg.
On a stick.

Tie fighter...X wing... bottom of fish tank... Drednaught floating above with LED lights shining down.. Starkiller base as aerator

Going back to the comment on AOTC, That was badass saber fighting. Also with ROTS. And a much better soundtrack. And I miss 3PO!!

Compare those saber fights to the fight with the Praetorian Guards. They just just kept spinning and running around until it was their time to get taken out, it was absolutely ludicrous, I was expecting the Benny Hill theme tune to come on.

Also, when the bomber pilot fell down the bomb shaft and it cut badly, like a cliffhanger moment on a tv show just before the commercial break, then came right back on straight away. WTH was that.

Glad to see other people using the term Leia Poppins, as that's exactly how I saw it and described it.

The Force Facetime thing was awful too. Especially the shoehorned in bit with topless Kylo, what are they, like, exes or something?

The leprechaun thing in the casino, and the whole casino thing.

The Porgs, why? Just why?

The Poe/Hux exchange at the start was like a poorly written skit in a school talent show.

I liked the porgs. I was fearing them in the preview but they were hardly in there compared to what I thought they would be. My son loved them.

Poe did exactly what he aimed to do with his exchange with Hux. He distracted them while the resistance got their bombers out. I thought it was a bit corny too but you also have the Han exchange over Comms on the Death Star in ANH.

I just got back from the 6 pm showing.... I liked it. I knew all of the spoilers before hand and I was dreading some of it. I shouldn't have, they handled it all very well IMO. One thing I will say... This was an original story. No denying that. Everyone pisses and moans about episode VII being a rehash and unoriginal, well guess what... This does not do that at all. I was surprised and delighted by the risks it took and it felt fresh to me. Could I nitpick some stuff?? Of course but I'll be in the theater again to see it several more times. I really really enjoyed it. It felt like Star Wars to me all the way whereas every time I left the theater with the prequels I had to justify them. Every single one.

I'll say pretty much what I said about TFA...did I have some problems with this? Yes I did. But it was such an overall FUN experience that I feel it would be somewhat Scrooge like to complain. There was some cheese, and they're rushing, and it shows in the cgi, but damn. Damn. What works, WORKS.

I am still trying to process how I feel about the movie. Going to see it again on the weekend.
I saw a double-feature with TFA and TLJ started at midnight - I was tired and irritated by the crowd around me so it may have coloured my experience.
I will say that I was initially very disappointed - some things just FELT wrong - it felt very European. Very oddly humorous at points.
I’m even more excited for Solo than I already was because I think that will have more of what I personally enjoy about Star Wars: creatures, weapons, skeevey underworld types.
My favourite modern character is Poe and I did enjoy him in the film so I’m happy about that.

The leaking bacta suit, the joke with the imperial uniform iron and the stupid little creature that thought BB-8 was a slot machine were three particularly annoying things for me.

Rey and Kylo fighting the Praetorian Guards was pretty sweet.

Wow this board continues to disappoint. I loved the movie. I'm not sure where these weird complaints even come from. I can't imagine this many people just can't get over that the OT characters are not the main characters anymore.
Because they should be at least equal with the younger cast, and it's such a rare, if unheard of thing that a main cast would reprise their roles 40 years later. Disney threw that opportunity in the trash. Imagine how much better TFA would have been if it at least the main cast would have reunited on screen. That's why it's hard to get over.

While I'm on the subject, I hate Hollywood's shunning of people once they get to retirement age. In real life folks in their 60's and 70's are far from irrelevant. Quite the opposite, in fact, they run the world. I hate it because that's the age my folks are, and my Dad, at 70, could still wipe the floor with most guys in their 20's or 30's that I meet.

This has nothing to do with the actor's age though. The fact is they are NOT the main characters in this trilogy. It is great to have them in the movies BUT in no way should they be equal to the NEW heroes.

I understand that many feel that way, but there's also a large number of paying moviegoers that feel as I do. I'll just respectfully disagree.

Feeling pretty conflicted about it at the moment.

It really feels like they are making up the story story as it goes. How exactly did Rey grow in this movie? What did she learn from Luke before leaving in a fit? That whole thing felt pointless for her as a character. It was all a setting for her to talk to Kylo.

it was nice to see Luke true to form, the hero as we wanted, even if a projection. Seemed like a pretty obvious mess up on Luke’s part to have his blue saber that Kylo should have noticed was destroyed. But I really didn’t expect that to have drained Luke so much. It all happened so quick that I didn’t believe it when it happened.

and while the Yoda Puppet wasn’t perfect, it was a hell of a lot better than cg. I loved the return of laughing crazy Yoda.

Regarding the age thing...a lot of people seem to be put off by Han and Luke's failings in 7 and 8, and I often wonder if they're younger viewers. At 42, I very much relate with "I'm going to an island to die, screw all of you." I ADORE that Luke has been made flawed, broken, that his youthful idealism went at least initially unfulfilled. Call me cynical, but that's life.

I hated Canto whatever, but it gave us that ending with broom boy, which was pure magic. For that, it was worth it.

I hated Huff Po editor Holdo. You're like 60. Purple hair? My god.

Porgs are the greatest thing ever. DJ was awesome.

Are they giving Daisy HGH? She's jacked. I'm surprisingly in love with her not being a Skywalker. They're opening up this universe, broadening it.

Most swearing in SW. I approve.

I accept Snoke's demise, but we need to know who he was and where he came from still. That can't be left unanswered.

Alien boob milk. RJ has nerve. I approve of how willing he was to be off putting.

CGI backgrounds were Fury Road level distracting. Take another year Disney. Do it right. On that topic, no more cg animal riding. It will never not look like crap.

Love how Poe and Finn screwed it all up and made things worse. Fits the hubris theme.

Too much inappropriate humor. Not everyone has to be Tony Stark.

Kylo is the most interesting character in the saga. I said it.

Overall, a weeeeeird movie. But that's ok, I like weird. Felt like the end of a trilogy, not the middle. Super curious for 9!

What an absolute mess of a film. Some cool scenes, a few cool shots, but not a good film.

Just got back from seeing it with the family tonight. Had a great time!

SPOILERS AHEAD

Criticisms:
- Movie got bogged down in the second act.
- they really did make this into a Disney film as opposed to a Star Wars film. Rouge One was a better Star Wars film.
- played too much with established SW cannon ( Starships, physics, lightspeed, Hyperspace)
- too many campy humor moments. Some were great but they started too early with them and didn't let up much.
- Asian actress was weak sauce. Like she was just there for Diversity
- Laura Dern as Admiral ***** was a poor performance and honestly just looked goofy. Mutiny subplot was really Unessesary.

Greatness:
- Expanded the powers and lore of the Force
- Someone gets chopped in half
- kept the romance to a minimum (hetro, no gayness)
- lightsabers
- Force Ghosts
- Chewie and the Falcon
- Animation of Snoke was really some of the best motion capture work I've ever seen. Amazing on screen as it didn't look like CGI. Made the character much more visually ntetesting.
- Bomber run on dreadnought paid great homage to WW2 bomber missions.
- ALMOST NOTHING in this film turns out like you expected the story and plot points to go. Not a ESB copy like TFA was a ANH copy. An Original story! Not perfect in many ways but Kudos to the writers. AHEAD

What I liked:

"General Kenobi, years ago you served my my father in the clone wars..." Oh the feels. I'm not crying, are you crying?

Porgs. Thought I'd hate them. Loved them instead.

Luke's story arc. Some will hate it; I liked it. It was original.

Kylo's self serving quest for power.

Green milk. Right from the tap. Gutsy move, Maverick.

"Hey, holy island. Watch the language!"

Space battles.

Hyperspace Kamikaze. I guess that makes sense...

Puppet Yoda, burning books and knockin' noggins.

Plenty I didn't care for, but I'll stick with the positive for a while.

Finally we can talk about it! LOL

“Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”..George Santayana

So basically after all this time Luke and everyone never learned anything about the past and we are left with another Ben Solo -Skywalker turned Darth Vader/Kylo Ren bad guy Character who needs to be redeemed by protagonist Rey/Luke/Jedi who knows there is still good in him and will redeem him in third film.

Ok, so we are repeating the OT AGAIN.

So no original story ideas left at Lucasfilm?
