I guessed something was not right when the movie title was revealed. No one else seems to notice that it’s one word short. There is a pattern and it was ignored.

ANH. TPM. TFA.
TESB. AOTC. TLJ_.
ROTJ. ROTS. . . . .

It started here and it just gets worse.
The level of care are and attention to detail is sorely lacking under KK’s reign. :facepalm
I'm sure that's the key to all of this (or simply Palpatine's behind it all!!!!). :lol

So I don't really get the backlash, but that's just me.
That's fair enough mate. If you wonder, there's a few hundreds of pages discussing it if you're curious, then again, if you liked it, good for you.

Not really sure why this movie has developed a lot of negativity. In fact I don't believe I've seen as much hatred for a motion picture as this one.
Batman and Robin, Matrix sequels, SW prequels, Ghostbusters 2016...

Subtext, themes, fantastic action scenes, adept story telling of a middle part of a trilogy and great cinematic technique. Basically all the things that make something more than just a movie. It's all here.

What do you believe was the theme or the subtext and what was adept about the storytelling? Are the characters believable or relatable? Do you feel this movie fits within the established boundaries of the Star Wars universe and does that even matter to you?

I’m curious to know because some defenders of TLJ tell me I don’t get it, I’m a whiney fanboy, I’m sexist, racist and bigoted or that my expectation was based on made up theories rather than the diliberate set ups of TFA. Along with ‘it made a shed loada money, so it must be good’.

There are many valid points being made about the good in TLJ but I think they’re outweighed by the myriad problems already pointed out by us ‘haters’. I really want to understand the other point of view because I went into this thinking it would be great to have new SW movies.

I really didn't like TLJ...but having seen at home with my kids I've gotta say, and out of context of the rest of the abomination - the piece from where Rey jumps in to the cave and Luke pulls the stone hut down is a really great emotional sequence in any Star Wars film. Oh bugger, just remembered it has the Harry Potter mirror in it........sheesh.

Are you talking about Rey's acid trip. I still don't understand that scene. Maybe I am just that stupid. But what the hell is the finger snapping thing going on?

IMO, it was a way for Rey to focus her attention. In this manner she was able to move her attention from the point where she entered to the other end of the "Rey line" where the "mirror" was.

Also good to see The Last Jedi is the #1 seller for blu rays on Amazon the 1st day it is being sold.

I like the way the whole way through you are positioned to think she is talking to Luke but it's actually Kylo.
It's the duplicity of self and the infinite loop of self, the isolation of self, the ego, the universal truth that we are only in control of ourselves.
It has a shamanistic/ altered state feel to it which I felt was very appropriate for a Star Wars film.

I'm sure in Leigh Brackets draft of TESB there was force cosmic visions and stuff - quite far out!

Hey I'm quoting myself! ha ha

I think this whole sequence sadly shows that Rian Johnson is an intelligent writer and capable director. He just wrote a very very poor script, that should have been highly re-written - then had to shoot it.

From a Mark Hamill interview with IGN:

Do You Regret That Luke Skywalker's Reaction to Han Solo's Death Was Cut?
"Yes, of course because it shows Luke was putting on a facade in front of Rey and even Chewie, that he was embittered and sort of a broken man," Hamill said. "And I think the fact that he could let his emotions out when he was by himself would have made an impact on the audience because it allowed them to grieve the loss of Han Solo just the way Luke felt it.

"But that always happens in films. You say, 'Oh, what about this scene where this happens or that happens?" because you want to give the fullest experience that you can. And like you say, it was brief enough that I was -- [chuckles] They had time for me to milk that big alien but to show any human emotion? Nah, we don't have time for that. But again it's not my call."

Love Hamill for his Love of Star Wars.

Watching get Oscar Issac get slapped repeatedly was what watching this movie felt like.

Here's a character you love? Slap! They aren't who you think they are!

Here's an interesting idea? Slap! That's not what you think it is!

Holdo is a Force user? Are they retconning this trashfire even after the film is available to buy on bluray?

Give me a break. I like Laura Dern, but Holdo, she's another forgettable character in a sea of forgettable characters.

So I just rented this and watched it on Google play......dear lord that was

STUPID

Well maybe not stupid, exactly, maybe just bombastic as hell :confused I didn't think we could outdo ROJ for being cheesy? Yea well we did,TLJ has parts that make one wince in sheer horror at the nature of it all and the characters, gawd the CHARACTERS in some places were out of a bad cartoon the casino....the casino, why?? Just WHY?? I feel violated like I tried to re-watch some old GI Joe from the 80's or other gawd awful cartoon like MASK or something.

The movie does have a few good parts, not many...at all,but Kylo and Rey kicking butt was fun,Luke was okay as a grouchy old hermit but the whole Luke/Kylo back story is like a cheap 80's ninja or martial art film, think the karate kid or such.

I'd say don't bother unless you like your fast forward button (I know I did) and only if you want to suffer some PTSD of how bad it was...unless you like nostalgia,I don't and I hate most of the stuff from when I was young, old Star Wars was okay, some other 80's films but this thing reached down to the barrel's bottom and dredged out some sludge I'd rather forget and had until tonight.....

I'm gonna go listen to some heavy, heavy metal right now like Six Feet Under,I need to forget.

Sitting and thinking about it I need to ask this:

After watching the ending does anybody else think we're gonna have a HUGE time jump in nine? Seems those kids were talking about events that happened YEARS before their time....maybe just me but how I felt.

They have to do that. Can't have the entire trilogy going down in a week. Which brings the problem of whatever little is left hanging at the end of TLJ will be addressed or resolved in the opening crawl of Ep9.
"Due to Luke Skywalker's heroic sacrifice more and more systems join the Resistance and they are pushing back the might of the First Order. Cornered, the First Order in their desperate last stand create >>instert superlaser here<< that could turn the tide of the war and bring darkness to the galaxy..."

Last Jedi Blu-ray now “Temporarily our of stock” on Amazon.
