Zvezda Imperial Star Destroyer by Dubz

Beautiful work.

One critique: Inlining those large images is killing my ability to view on my mere mortal's connection at home.

Those image sizes are nothing compared to some I've seen on other forums. I really haven't had a problem with his images other than the tearing up when I gaze upon their beauty.

Hey guys, thanks for your comments, much appreciated. About the pictures, I am very sorry that your connection is this slow but the pictures are indeed not very big for nowadays. I hope you can enjoy it anyway.

The Primer is Vallejos Surface primer (74602) sprayed with airgun nozzle size 0.2mm.

cheers,

Dirk

I love it!! Did you scratch build the extra details or was it an upgrade kit?

Appreciate your sharing your build again with this update . That main docking bay is beautifully ominous ! Are the photos in black and white ?

Couple of questions if I may . What length are you cutting your fibres at before installing them , and how do you plan to trim them back sufficiently after the painting is completed - especially in the ‘ tighter ‘ areas ?

Thanks ,

:cheersGed

> That main docking bay is beautifully ominous ! Are the photos in black and white ?

No it's just that the bay is still black primed ;-)

> What length are you cutting your fibres at before installing them

I don't cut BEFORE I cut after and then as needed.

> and how do you plan to trim them back sufficiently after the painting is completed - especially in the ‘ tighter ‘ areas ?

Haha, no idea yet. Will check when it is time :)

> saw your latest pics over in the FB Zvezda forum. Terrific work!

FO Trimming: I might suggest some extra small stainless side cutters for trimming toe nails. most drug stores have them. and if the snout is still too wide, take some of the outer metal off with your bench grinder...but if you do that, go slowly with the grinder, little bit at a time. if you get them too hot too quick with the grinder the cutting edges get hot and warp, ruining their ability to cut properly. I had to get a second pair cause I ruined the first one, but it's worked well for me. JMO

I trimmed almost all of the FO in those tight spots ("The Trench") with the bottom pair. It has a very tiny head and is curved. In a lot of the tight spots I had to use the tip of the scissors to cut the FO off. A few tries in some case but it cut better than the top one in those tight spots. Any other FO that was easy to trim I used a good pair of flush cutters that you would cut parts off the spruces with.

I found after trimming all the FO and then testing the lighting some FO tips were not as bright as others. I took a toothpick, pin or small tipped awl and gently scratched the ends of the FO to remove any paint or debris that was on the tip and it brightened up like all the rest

Hope this helps!

Thanks guys, much appreciated! I allready have the bottom one here too. It will take still a while till I use it :)

cheers,

Dirk

Hey Dirk ,
Incredible super detailing going on in that engine area :p! Is it based off any actual ship from the films or just your imagination ... maybe a combination ? .
Were the various styrene rods difficult to bend and keep in the shapes you wanted ?

Your photos are wonderfully crisp & clear and I can zoom in on them with my iPad , but what is happening in the garbage chute ? - Is it also greebled up inside ?
