Neal Adams Batman Cosplay help

I am making a Neal Adams style Batman cosplay. I have the cowl and bodysuit and trunks. How would I go about creating a canister belt and buying/making the gauntlets? I know how to make my cape but what fabric should I use?
 
I've seen #PunisherNC in a pretty awesome take on this cosplay. I wonder if perhaps he would be able to offer you any assistance.
