Rocket Raccoon Costume Build

So I started working on a Rocket Raccoon costume for my 7 year old son and thought I would share the process. It won’t be hyper-accurate but should be close enough.

I ordered most of the supplies from Amazon and a few things from Etsy.

I started by painting eyes using metallic acrylic paint on the back of glass cabochon domes.

Test-fitting the eyes on the mask. The mouth, eyebrows and ears move.

Built a new nose.

Added eye sockets, lips, fangs with Apoxie and painted nose with Plasti Dip. I’m going to redo the fangs with InstaMorph Moldable Plastic.

With paint. Ready for fur.

I ordered this badger jaw set but it was too small.

These real badger claws will go into his gloves.

I bought this blaster for one of his guns.

After paint and modifications. Handgrip is coated in Plasti Dip.

This was the other gun I bought.

• Fur on mask
• Fur arms
• Gloves
• Shoes
• Jumpsuit pads
• Backpack with light

Thanks! I can't wait to start on the fur and airbrushing. That's when it will really start to come alive!

Nice! good luck on the build - I would have loved to done a mask but it would have not been tolerated by my 3 year old

Exactly! My son is already complaining about the stock plastic straps on the mask. I'm going to add padding to the interior, so it's more comfortable for him.

Decided to remove the upper fangs and just shave down the original teeth. Added some lower fangs with moldable plastic. I would clean up the upper gums but you won’t see them anyway.

Made some foot claws out of moldable plastic and put them on the water shoes. They will be covered in fur.

The pieces of the backpack shell are nearly finished. Now to add details, paint and add straps.

Its not as perfect as I would like but I’m running out of time. It’s going to be down to the wire to finish by Halloween.

The pack is nearly done.

Feet are done.

I decided to build a rear for the mask to give a surface for the fur to stick to.

Added fur. Still need to add ears and paint it.

Still lots of details to add but I wanted to see it all together.

What paint did you use? Shame you're not making the eyes / surrounds for sale. Would definitely be interested!

Did you shave any of the fur?
