Another hardware store lightsaber build! Finished!

Re: Another hardware store lightsaber build!

That looks awesome! very machine, modern lightsaber ish. Its like a booster but...not!

Re: Another hardware store lightsaber build!

what are the white pieces? Are they like rubber grommets or something?
I used to do hardware sabers too, would often use a mix of fender washers and black vinyl washers stacked alternately to form grips. I worked for a industrial shop at the time, so raided the parts bins for extras. They had great rubber feet that fit perfectly inside the Chrome sink pipe as a filler. wish i knew where they got them...

Re: Another hardware store lightsaber build!

The grips are polywashers used for plumbing. They are not solid white but a frosted translucent clear. By them from an actual plumbing store much cheaper than the hardware store. I paid 19 cents a peice for them. Haven't decided if im going to paint them or not. Kinda like the clean all aluminum look.

So my hardware store lightsaber build is finally finished! Added one more peice tonight. My scratch built Graflex Style clamp lever. I made this from aluminum flashing that was cut with a Dremel and shaped with a file. I drilled a hole through it then cut a small peice of tubing to glue it to. I then used a nail to act as a pin to hold the lever on. Gives the appearance of a graflex clamp.

Hey propmainiac ! I just noticed you made your cone-knob, that's very cool! It looks like you just chucked it up in your drill and filed it down, what a great way to make a knurled part without having a knurler!

Do you have any pics of it in its original state? It's just a knurled thumb-screw of some sort correct?

Did you tint your grip section a bit? I was going to recommend that you leave it be and allow it to discolor over time, but the light grey wash looks good too!

Congratulations on finishing your latest lightsaber!

The knob is a knurled thumbscrew that I came across on an old computer case. Yep put it in a drill and used a file to shape it. I left the grip as it is did not paint it. I like the all aluminum look. Thank you for the compliments.

The ribbed section is actually plastic plumbing washers. They are called polywashers. They are taperd. They have a whitish translucent look. I slid them over an chrome plumbing tube.

Hi all. Made some changes to my custom saber. I painted the grips black. Then I added a Hasbro FX Luke saber. The clamp had no sidebars and clamp card area. So using steel key material aluminum flashing and a clamp lever I made it function like a graflex clamp! The card is from an old Ibm logic card. I like it more now. Here's pics.

That would work. A little more of the Obi ANH vibe. Also, you could put some electrical tape under the clamp so the black shows through the holes and slot.

Yeah I didn't really think that through when I made it. Might switch it with the flat knob at the booster area. Thanks for the compliment!
