Alien environmental MK50 suits FINISHED!!

Re: Alien environmental MK50 suit group build PIC HEAVY

thanks! but no, all the parts are cold cast bronze , you buff them with paint thinner and steel wool. then spray down with vinegar and salt , wrap in cling wrap and it patinas. then i heat them with a heat gun and it speeds up the patina process.

Wow!!! Nice. Turned out spot on.

Re: Alien environmental MK50 suit group build PIC HEAVY

thanks, big update.

starting the interior , not many good photos of the inside of the helmet. so i am basically finding some parts and just going with what i think it is and of course both side are different...LOL

i plan to 3d render all the control panels on the inside but laying them out in foam and wood first for sizes.

on the dummy ..

wrist bands.. these turned out pretty good.

me wearing the suit so far.

Thx for uploading the etchings!!!
I hope it’s ok that I use them for my EVA suit project ?!
I’m planning to 3D print them, just a millimeter in height, so that the material is flexible and I can glue it on the helmet...
This was my first take on Kane’s suit ( i build it when I was 16 but I’m currently working on a much more screen accurate and wearable version than this guy):

Finally making some progress on my own suit.

Getting the helmet trimmed and trying out the headgear

Testing one of the etched parts from an experiment.

Also got a lightbar in i wanted to tryout. It's supposed to be a floodlight for the front of a car, so it should be pretty bright. :)

Got the light bodys attached to the back. All starting to come together.

Straps for the chest and pauldrins are also done.

One of my earlier etching attempts. Researching glues at the moment to make sure this thing stays on.

thank you. you can share work in "share your insert name here costume" threads, but it is frowned upon to post your work in someone else's work in progress thread.

Re: Alien environmental MK50 suit group build PIC HEAVY

OMG! This is so gorgeous!

I have a some parts ready (acrylic-dome, the two model-kits and some of the small parts) to start mine, but haven't enough time right now.

Love your work - a real inspiration to finally start mine.

Re: Alien environmental MK50 suit group build PIC HEAVY

Finally getting everything pit together in one place and testing the fit. I still have to add one more of the handles to the stomach box and paint the other one. Also got some of my test brass added to the shoulder bell and name plate.

I have the hose and power cable plugged up and also added the clear dial cover

Stopped by to see my local millennium falcon yesterday to get some parts laser etched so I can start getting some brass on the helmet.

Re: Alien environmental MK50 suit group build PIC HEAVY

Hey C,

The suit is really coming along! I hope the brass etchings work out. If so, we just found another reason for the laser cutter. Looking forward to seeing more! Excellent work so far.

Thanks Sofa! I should be able to start etching tonight. Fingers crossed!

Re: Alien environmental MK50 suit group build PIC HEAVY

Started to etch the parts from the laser cutter last night, took about 4hrs to get to this point using ferric chloride acid, still about an hour or so more to get through the rest but this is going to be the way to go.
