Had a go at some electroetching, I was a little skeptical at first but it seemed to work pretty good. Now on to the actual named badges.

Now that i've gotten my feet wet a little with electroetching, I've been trying to figure out what this all says. Does anyone have any insight or ideas? It's a screen grab from @asavage's suit when he wore it to SDCC 2014.

if you guys have input, please share!

anywho... i have started learning fusion 360 for a 3d printing program. and decided to do the wrist parts that way. so i rendered the basic shape in 360. i left the bottom square because it would be easier to mold after clean up.

then needed the correct size to print. so i grabbed the greebs from the 74 mclaren kit. so i could work up a size here is the drawing with the octagon greebs. i need to clean up the greebs. make a waste mold of several of them in the right pattern . then just make copies then glue them down to a board that is the right width for the belt. then mold then cast in rubber.

and here is the very start of the helmet.. long way to go on that. tons going on there and want the greebs i have to fit correctly. so having the greebs before starting it really helps judge size.

Did they pinch this from a passing Stormtrooper? Looks very like the SE14 pistol used in promo shots for a New Hope.

The base gun is actually from my Dr. Evazan costume, which is a SE14. So technically it is from A New Hope!

Loving this thread so far. You've worked quicker on the EVA suit than I did on the Nostromo uniform jacket. I'm impressed.

    sweet.

got the first pulls from the shoulder bells. these have not been trimmed i was just seeing how the cold cast bronze was going to work. it works pretty well.

the bottom two parts are polished with no sealer or weathering yet. just playing around to see what kind of effects i could get.

playing with weathering options and i think i found a winner. since we are cold casting these in bronze we should be able to get a good patina on them like the originals. first i polish up the surface with paint thinner and steel wool. then i used a mixture of vinegar and salt and brushed down the surface on the armor. then wrapped in cling wrap and left over night.

cleaned up alittle with steel wool.

then final clean up with steel wool. i might go back in with some black shoe polish also.

    thanks!

    major update.

pack molds are done and got the first casting along with the chest armor.

here is the 3d printed wrist part with model kit greebs for size reference.

here is the pack weathered and some of the lights attached, still need to finish painting parts of it. and we also need the pressure gauge decals plus the other stickers. plus the toggle switches which i have and the u brackets on the corners.

here the mock up of the armor on the pads. i still need the right webbing and adjustment buckles.

the stickers are going to look great! good job on those, cody!

here is a helmet update. still fitting symmetry issues but getting there. this helmet will be more symmetrical than the original..LOL....

finally getting to the point of starting to add detail to the helmet and working on the dome light at the top. still working out the size of the light one top.

i don't know why photobucket keeps posting my pics sideways... bastards..
