The movie prop was constructed for James Cameron´s ALIENS (1986) movie. Syd Mead is responsible for the design and Skotak Brothers for the construction. Interesting Thing is, that the rail-guns positions were changed and the whole model is detailed from the right side only.

In the story is the ship assigned as a transport for colonial Marines (USCM-United States Colonial Marines), which must investigate, what happened with the colony on the LV426. That´s all to the movie line. In the bigger perspective there is no proper (correct) information. Most fans disagree on the major details of the back story. Personally, the only things that I can state are facts that were mentioned in the movie. So, the U.S.S. Sulaco is a little bit over 731 meters in length, carry two of the UD-4L Drop-ships (I can tolerate 4). The hangar for the drop-ships is over 80 meters in length. By the number of EEV vehicles we can calculate hypothetical capacity to 100 people. There are 30 crew members confirmed (two drops with 15 people). In the front hull there are 5 hangars for incoming ships. Two Portal ramps operated in front of the hangar doors on each side of the ship. Other functions are unknown. How is artificial gravity works, What kind of engines the ship have?..And so on. From the outer signs we can guess something about the weapons (cannons, rail-guns, partial beams), or engine character (rounded reactor with the " cooling tower")

U.S.S. Sulaco the is first ship of three (Sulaco, Sulaco3, Patna) paper-models, which will be downloadable here piece by piece trough time. Model has dirty navy blue camouflage. There is an Add-on in the shape of two drop-ships known as Bug Stopper 01 & Smart Ass 02 and an emergency escape vehicle - The BD-409 EEV in new and destroyed. All kits are designed to be printed on A4 format paper. The completed ship will be 175cm in this scale and printing settings. If you want to know more about printing or you have another question, first visit F.A.Q. section. You can find all of the models in the " Download" section

I will make SULACA in A3 and g250 and 1: 320 so that the model will be a 2m long and about 60cm model I will completely reinforce the SULACO boat model will be tuned so that the structure of the ship is thrown

We start the building of Sulaco with unusual group of parts -the parts group No.02

Side plates with ship logo
Group 02 is not too hard to build. Level of difficulty is 2/5. That one point is for small parts. The whole group has 18 parts on 3 sheets

Plates that are stuck in addition are not marked with arrows.
Nasucho folded parts with boat logo.

Slit plates
length 47.9 cm
height 8.8 cm
width --- 1cm

I rejuvenate the vodkakama combinations black + white + blue.

Group 05 is not too hard to build. Level of difficulty is 2/5. The group is composited from a few cubes. I would recommend stiffening the walls of the cubes with some sort of cardstock (I´m using double sided tape). The whole group has 16 parts on 6 sheets.

Group 04 is one of the harder groups. It contains more difficult shapes than the previous one. That´s why it is rated at 3/5 stars. The whole group has 28 parts on 6 sheets.

Ordered a 30" 3D printed Sulaco from Etsy. Will up load pics when I receive it. Takes a week to print. IMG_6910.JPGIMG_6913.JPGIMG_6912.JPGDon't believe it is absolutely accurate. Some things are pretty obvious. Though it is the largest model of the ship that's out there. Plan to customize as much as possible.

Huh. Well I guess I won't be the first. I was planning on taking these paper version plans and converting them into a 3D model to print. Trusting they are accurate. Debating between 36" and 48".

Group 08 is easiest for now. There are few boxes and few smaller objects which is deserve 1/5 stars. Whole group has 14 parts on 2 sheets.

Today it is Group 07 - The bottom cover plates. With this group, the whole bottom and side section of the front unit of the Sulaco is finished. With this group completed, the front unit is fully prepared for the antenna array - Group 03.

Antenna Array - Group 03

20121101174538-180398-full.jpg20121101174422-180397-v.jpg

The antenna array
itself is the hugest and "most parts in one place"- Group ever. Level of laboriousness is really hard this time. There are lots of small parts, rounded parts and high number of parts. Four stars of five are valid in this case. Whole group has 142 parts on 12 sheets with 5 sheets of the building diagrams.
