Hey, I am looking for a program that will allow me to cut a 3d model into its parts based on their colour or shape for 3d printing, I've done it before but I can't for the life of me remember what I used, just wondering if anyone can help me, please and thank you.

Abel.

skiffy nailed it. Tinkercad can do it. If you want to go further with designing in 3d than Fusion 360 (also free for hobbyists) is possible way to go.

Thanks guys, think I'm just a bit incompetent, just can't figure it out.

Sketch Up got me closer but I having to delete pieces polygon by polygon...just nope.. :p

The one I used before I remember being able to just click the edge of the polygons along the line I wanted to cut away and done, 2 pieces..
