MCU Spider-Man Homecoming ELECTRONIC lenses!!!

:ninja "Hey everyone"... (Admit it, you read that in Tom Hollands voice).

A few years ago, I made a thread discussing the electronics in the Iron Man Faceplate, that thread got something crazy like a quarter of a million views and many people are using my setup to make Iron Men faceplates move. How ferken epic!!!! :)

Since then, I've studied arduino at University and my skills are considerably more advanced now... Check out my most hi-tech project here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0frV6ZcWpLc

Well, it appears that everyone is being real quiet about the spidey lens instructional now, so maybe it's time to open up the secret... First I need to do some tests though ;)

With that in mind, this is basically a placeholder thread. I have decided to set myself a challenge to create the motorised eye lenses from homecoming, and made it a little tougher with an AWESOME list of requirements:

Moving eye criteria:[LOL... I USED COMIC SANS] :devil

  1. Face-plate must not be oversized.
  2. All FOUR eyelids move independently (The best so far is both eyes move independently).
  3. All mechanisms contained in faceplate (no trailing cables to the suit), so the face-plate can easily be switched between suits.
  4. The white eyes will glow red for "insta-kill" mode.
  5. Maybe include some Karen sounds, like "Insta-kill mode activated" (let's see how it goes).
  6. Pre-programmed expressions activated via a wireless controller... Maybe installed in web shooter or belt, I dunno, too soon to decide.
  7. The pre-programmed expressions will include:

  • eyes wide,
  • eyes slit,
  • instakill (eyes slit, white turns red),
  • wink (each eye on command),
  • malfunction (both eyes flutter like the sleep over scene)...
  • Sleepy: Spidey will struggle to keep his eyes open
  • One eye open, one eye closed: Spidey is confused
  • Bottom eyelids up: Spidey sees something cute AF

The "eyelids" will be controlled via 4 super tiny micro servos (already ordered, one for upper and lower eyelid on each eye). It will all be controlled using Arduino, LiPo battery... blah blah blah... I'll confirm the tech when I know it works...

I will post updates here occasionally (If I remember), but the main juicy stuff will be delivered via my FACEBOOK PAGE, feel free to follow it (all I want in life is followers).

Forget spending $500 on a prebuilt shell with electronics, stay with me and I'll show you how to do it for under $100 + cost of shell.

In my case I'll be using a 3D printed shell (cos I got da freedee printaaahhh), but you guys can just buy one/make one, whatevs, just watch... Anyway, for now my 3D printer is taking ages, and I'm currently sat by the front door waiting for my tech to arrive (it's been three days so far and I'm hungry, bring me food).

I will also be trying to build the wall projecting webshooter (you know that thing Tony included, which makes his face glow on the wall), that will probably also be featured in this thread...

With these absolutely awesome artistic skills I have managed to do some scribbles, which kind of look like something that is in my brain (In all honesty, we all know that people only enjoy threads with pictures, so I had to include one):

Did I mention to follow the Facebook page? Currently working on: A Rick and Morty Portal Gun with portal wall projector, hyper-tech Ghostbusters proton pack, some Batman/Batgirl stuff, Power Rangers ummm... Just follow, you'll love it. See you soon with Some update on this Spidey project.

In the meantime, if anybody could take the "NEWEST V3 Homecoming Webshooters" from Kens awesome thread and hollow it out for me, I'd be super grateful (I can electronic like a boss, but I suck at 3D modelling.

What I haz done so far (while you're here, don't forget to sub the CHOOB CHANNELLLLL:

Since I have your attention here, I'm also working on the electronic webshooters. I have had a projector unit made up to project the spiderman logo onto walls like at the end of Civil War.

Following! Best thread I've seen in a while!

Definitely subscribing and following!

Why thank you :)

You are my new favorite person. Good luck to you sir.
I'm not a sir, SPIDEY GIRL REPRESENTIN!!!!!! :cool Mine will be switching between Spidey and Gwen.

I'm very excited to watch this!! But question, will it also work for the homemade goggle eyelids?
Ummmm, it should work with the goggle eyes, if you use a shell. I'm only going to be describing the tech, code and personal placement, so you can adapt it to however you see fit.

My Face shell has almost finished printing, one more part left to do. I've decided it's too big. But I can still prototype in this while I print a smaller one. YOU LIVE AND LEARN.

My sincerest apologies madame.

The scene in the movie where Karen discusses the suits abilities is pretty silent, so yeah, I'm going to install sounds as well, stuff-it lets go crazy :)

Might need to wait until the movie is released to get the sound bites though. Bare with me :)

added the link to your thread on mine

Thank you, I was hoping I'd make it on to there... Aiming for the top spot ;) Don't put me at top until I deserve it!
I WILL NOT LET YOU DOWN MY FELLOW SPIDER.

My tech has started to arrive today. I'm pretty stoked to receive the servos, but they're coming from France, so I have to wait a while.

Arduino pro mini 3.3v <<<<< important because of the power I'll be using. Don't get the 5v one!!!

This little beast is capable of controlling the 4 servos (one for each eyelid), the eye lights for "insta-kill" mode AND the Karen AI sound effects that I'll be installing.
Best thing is, it takes up no space at all.

The faceplate printed badly. Needs work. Whatevs. Prototype.
Here's a gander as the pro mini in one of like a billion places I might install it. Doesn't interact with my forehead, profile is too low.

Here's a gander of it next to the faceplate...

Is anybody excited yet? I am, I literally wet myself when this arrived... IT BEGINS!!!
Disclaimer: I didn't literally wet myself, more like metaphorically.

Batteries will arrive later today, bless you Amazon Prime.

I hope I don't make you sad but the links are not in a particular order :eek

My life goals are ruined :'( JJJJKKKKKK :)

Still waiting for tech to arrive. One of my spider-bro's is going to be sending me a face shell to work on :) Nice of him. In return I will link his stuff in the top post. For now, when my tech arrives, I'll prototype on my oversized 3D printed one.

My servo's finally arrived. These are the smallest servos I could find, which is mega important so they don't take too much space up in the face shell. The cool thing is that these are linear servos, which mean they go backwards and forwards, instead of round. Although only two have arrived so far, I have actually purchased 4 of them in total, one for each eyelid. Here is a couple of images to give an indication of the size. I have put the servo and the pro mini in frame alongside an SD card to give an indication of the size:

20287072_1194688427303849_8833532737045579043_o.jpg20424106_1194688463970512_4535773617860979974_o.jpg

Here's an image of their approximate location within the face shell. I have put this on my face and can assure you, they do not touch my face at all.

20287078_1194688513970507_350640898203988295_o.jpg

You can get them via my affiliate link here (please excuse the messy website, I accidentally deleted the whole thing so I'm building it again):

http://candeegeeks.com/spider-man/pico-linear-servo/

Don't forget, they are 3.7v and MUST NOT be powered by anything higher than that.

I can't wait to see what it's going to give ! :eek

Good job :thumbsup
I can not wait to see what it's going to give!

More tech has arrived, so lets take a gander at the new components.
In these images, we have an SD card for size reference. Then a 3.7v LiPo battery, the arduino pro mini, the bluetooth reciever, and the 2/4 servos.

20369131_1195385423900816_4707392534056780768_o.jpg20414180_1195385383900820_1128597012545216195_o.jpg

In the face shell you can see the first location I am considering installing the parts. I've have installed everything using a super hi-tech malleable substance known in the stark-tech community as sticky tak. It is an alien substance straight from Asgard, I can be purchased at your local thunder god stationary supply store.

20525625_1195385323900826_4821686072287749799_n.jpg

For testing I will be controlling the tech via the bluetooth on my phone. Eventually I will get another BT module and build a remote... or just buy one... Because I'm lazy.

Get them here:
LiPo Batteries, 3.7v @ 800mah x 4 with charger:
UK: http://amzn.to/2vgfJmA
USA: http://amzn.to/2u7aVLf

Bluetooth module:
UK: http://amzn.to/2v95pMA
USA: http://amzn.to/2uHORul

I already have some RGB LED's but I'll post a link the them soon. Now that I have all the tech I need to start, I guess I better actually start doing some work. From this point on, I'll probably start using videos and online software to make things happen. So I guess this is where it gets a bit exciting. Please give me a few days though because I'm busy as h*ll doing multiple projects at the same time.

If you want to see some of my other projects in the meantime, please head over to the YouTube channel.

This is probably the coolest video to give you faith in my abilities while you wait:
