Re: Benthis Two Tubes - Build journal

Photo-bucket strikes back!

Lots of members seem to have suffered this unfortunately...

I just saw this thread and I am very interested in seeing the pictures Silverstalker if you can get them to work. Maybe try a different host site? Seems like photobucket is unusable now.

It's not the first time they've changed bandwidth policies with no warning. I moved on from PB years ago for this very reason.

Silverstalker, I'm really keen to see your Edrio build. Do you have a blog or site where this is also posted?

Hi Silverstalker, I've seen your finished product and it looks great, but I'm keen to see your whole build process (as are a lot of us it seems).
Could you possibly upload the images to another site such as flickr and share the album?

I have moved most of the pictures over to my new Flickr account, sadly a lot have been lost a long the way... I have deleted the first post I made as it was full of dead links and copies of pictures it was a real mess!!

I am going to up load again with what pictures I have left... I can add details to the build as I go and answer as many questions as I can...

More to follow soon.

Home brew silicone mold,

bucket of Ice cold water, 100% clear ''construction'' silicone, washing up liquid to act as a catalyser it sets the silicone in about an hour..

for the neck seal I used cellophane to wrap round my neck and side of my head, covered that in duct tape, pulled it off and cut into fabric templates I can used to transfer to suede fabric

I used a zipper on the back that will be hidden by the rear head plate and neck scarf

rear back plate thingy, just a collection of parts thrown together

held on with magnets on the inside of the neck seal.

The leather coat was one I found on e-bay for £40 genuine leather and broke my heart to cut it all up!

Sadly I don's have pictures as I modded it due to Photobucket not letting me have them back????? I also have no original pictures left

but what I can tell you is the screen used one looks kind of blue(ish)? I found that when you used a foam backed 120 grit bit of sand paper it removes the dye and roughs up the leather to the point it goes fluffy and ......blue! (ish) so I did that all over and it took all day!!!

I also removed all the buttons, button holes, lapels and collar, I have to make a new hem line after cutting it all up, this I had to do on a fabric sewing machine as I don't have a sewing machine for leather, to avoid damage to the machine I hand cracked the whole lot..... this to a life time but worth the extra effort..

The two tube part of it was tricky.... plastic pipe was to big and would not sit right so I didnt even bother trying with it, what I did note is rope hands nicely? so I will be using that a s a 'core'

but first I cut up 80 small sections of pipe from an old shower rail with a little pipe cutter..

20170609_152925 by Silver Stalker, on Flickr

covered the rope in insulation tape (crude yes) but given the close proximity of each pipe section the tape will never be that visible and after its been weathered and matt clear coated you would never know..

20170609_144654 by Silver Stalker, on Flickr

for the connecting ends I simply increased the size of each pipe section and made it thicker with the tape..

I bonded the whole lot together and used a simple nut and bolt to hold the tubes in place that can be removed for storage... the end result is two pipes that bend nicely and also hang nicely..

Can you guess what it is yet!!

moving on...

Boots were easy...

a pair of high top chelsea boots with the pull tabs moved to the sides

The trousers were another difficult one, they seem quite puffy on screen not like combats or khaki type trousers...

So I used a pair of skiers trousers as they are padded and long, this will have nice over all look, I simply added the knee pad area and painted the whole lot, sealed and weathered

the only pic I have is of the knee pad....

thanks again Photobucket..

The hands/gloves were also simple, a pair of sure grip type cloves with PVC pip cut up into half's and chipped away to look crab/bone like and bonded

The tunic-

again.... PhotoBucket have screwed me... I didnt use parachute silk as that seems to be the source material, instead I used a silk variant mixed with polyester, its shiny and it will take weathering a lot better..

The Blaster-

I managed to scale up a picture of the blaster after a long slog round the internet..

Guys and Gals there are so many pictures missing, the details I put into the pictures told a much better story, I can only offer advise as to my journy on this, it's not 100% on point there are things that need to be improved but I can do this along the way. So far its worked out great for me and I love it so far...

I need to add the lenses into the eyes as they need to be silver but I will keep going with the little extra parts over the coming weeks, so here it is as it stands now....

Lots to do, lots to improve but its almost there..

I have made a few more mods to it now, its slowly looking a lot better, I will get more progress pictures up soon....ones that are not over exposed :lol

Wow! Master class in scratchbuilding, with a brilliant and inspiring tutorial to boot! :thumbsup

thank you kindly, I only wish I had more of the pictures. I will never know how or why the vanished from Photobucket..

I went to London Film and Comic Con last weekend, I trooped about 2-3 hours and I was done! this is the hottest thing ever ha... I will upload some pictures of the event at some point .
