Hey all, just thought I'd share this little project for the wife's birthday.
She bought a wand from Harry Potter land at Universal Studios when we went in October. I asked her what she was going to do with it, and I got a "Don't tell me what to do" look, so I shut up. But here we are in June, and still it sat in the box, IN THE BAG, so I decided to make a display piece.
I didn't take as many pictures of the process as I wish I had, but here's what I have. It's made of MDF, cutting and shaping done with a jigsaw, rotary tool and a square file. It's painted with Rustoleum hammered metal spray paint (which takes FOR-EVER to dry, btw). The letters/numbers are vinyl cut on a Silhouette, but hand drawn in Photoshop. Except for the white AZKABAN PRISON lettering, where vinyl was used as a stencil instead. Everything else was hand painted with acrylics. I used hanging plant hooks because they kinda matched the antique-y look of Harry Potter.
I tried to get it as screen accurate as I could with the tools/supplies available. In order to keep it a surprise, I could only work on it during the 3 hours or so between when we both got home from work. Took me about a week and the last coat of paint was still drying when I gave it to her. But she loved it.
