Another Spider Man Homecoming double suit build...

Like many before me, I've begun my quest through the corridors and canyons of the Amazon(.com) in search of cheap junk which when assembled will create the perfect cheap looking junk-compilation. Yep, I've chosen to hop on board the ultimate budget build bandwagon, and put together the homemade suit from Spider-Man Homecoming. And I'm pretty excited. I've been waiting for a steampunky spidey suit to make the big screens for a while now so...
I made the mask originally out of fleece because that's what looked the most accurate, but after comparing the permeability with that of a wet rag and finding the latter to be superior, I decided I'd rather breathe than look perfectly screen-accurate. And so I made this mask out of an old cotton T-Shirt.

For the goggles, I ordered these https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B002...ng+goggles&dpPl=1&dpID=41yCzhatIkL&ref=plSrch
And then ordered some mesh replacement lenses to replace the ones the goggles came with. I then went at the original black lenses with some scissors and laid them over the mesh to get the squinty look.

I ordered the gloves from amazon as well: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00L...g_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=KX6YPTCWW26A25BDPWNX
They're red with black palms and a black thumb, so two black thumbs up for screen-accuracy. I started the webbing on each using light puff paint, so as to still have that messy look but with a little shine.

The sweatpants are on the way and I'll be ordering the sweatshirt as soon as I send back the one they sent me which was very much the wrong size. I'll also be starting on the Stark suit as soon as the one I ordered from zentaizone arrives. I plan to texture it using puffy paint in a similar (albeit likely not as impressive) fashion as matthewdelacruz
Here's a rough test on paper

I purchased this ten dollar mask from target that I plan to use as a half faceshell. I removed the lining it came with and used a dremel to start sanding down all the pokey spots

It's roughly accurate in terms of size, and I might even be able to use its lenses.
Will update as more of my crud gets here from amazon.

Update (of the small variety): I purchased some new goggles on account of the last ones being horribly uncomfortable. I kept the lenses and lense frames from my original ones and transferred them.
Because I'm terrified of screwing with the integrity of the mask and the goggles, I'm not going to be seperately attaching the goggles to the mask, instead I'll be replacing the current elastic with a red elastic in hopes that it will blend in.

I also removed the lense frames from the ten dollar mask I purchased from target, and I gotta say... I like the results. Well scaled, and simply in need of some mesh and a little magnet work. A viable alternative to purchasing some overpriced ones from unreliable independent vendors.

I'm currently flat broke, thanks to some unexpected car maintenance issues and the money I spent having my Stark suit printed and assembled, so I'll have to wait til the next paycheck before I can procede much further. :/ Updates to come.

Could you post a pic of the back of the lenses? Also are they too flexible or a bit solid? I might consider using these.

IMG_6691.JPGThat's funny I had the same idea with the half mask, this was my result (although I had to return the suit to zentaizone cos they butchered my measurements, wrong size soles, etc. Great minds think alike! Here's my preliminary result (although the lenses aren't completely secured in this photo)

I consider them the perfect middle ground. They're not as solid as the mask itself because only the backs of them are solid plastic, but at the same time the rubber/plastic combination gives it the rigidity needed to retain its shape.

Ill be inserting the lenses back into the faceshell on top of the mask to give the lenses that indented look. Testing it out here with my homemade mask:

And here with the white superimposed to give you an idea of the look of the mask with the completed lenses.

Looks like a great alternative! Thanks!

Oh my lanta..... this is so cool! im going to do this in addition to getting one of Tjacks mcu shells.

I guess the mods didn't approve -_- sorry savvy, I wrote you two messages that didn't send properly. But yeah, that suit was the generic zentaizone base model, ordered about a month ago. Unfortunately, the feet were seriously mangled, as you can see in the photo above, soles too small, webbing didn't reach all the way down the heel, boots only reached halfway up my calves, loose stretchy fit around the ankles, thighs and waist. Spider emblem is really wrong, lumpy around the mask, white where the pattern ended sticking out on the inner leg. All that, and it cost 75 dollars to return. So I sprung for Brandon Gilbert's pattern. I did a significant amount of vetting for zentaizone before I ordered it, and everyone seems to review them positively, so it was a real bummer when the suit showed up botched. Looked at a bunch of tags on instagram and it really seems like brandongilberto had the best looking boots compared with the movie costume. Anyway, sorry it took so long to get a reply through! Keep up the good work

That looks fantastic! Did you just cut all the way through the shell to remove the lenses? What does the shell look like now without them?

I cut all the way through so that the lenses would retain the plastic backing for added stability, here's the faceshell presently, but I will be adding a rim behind the lense holes around the edges for the lenses to sit on when they are placed inside.

There was a problem with my print so I won't be receiving my suit until this coming Monday, but then I'll post more about how I plan to attach everything etc.

Thank you! I've wanted to do the MCU suit for a while, but lenses have always been so expensive. I'm gonna do this method instead.

That's how I've felt as well. The prices for lenses alone are just exorbitant. And then to buy a nice faceshell? You're looking at any where from 1 to 2 hundred dollars. I like this because I'm a cheapskate but I'm also very picky when it comes to screen accuracy, and here I feel like I'm doing okay on both fronts.

Cool idea on the Stark suit lenses! For the homemade suit mask, have you thought about wearing the goggles underneath the mask and slipping them through the eyeholes? I did that and then carefully glued the fabric to the edges of the goggles, but it still works really well without.

You've inspired me to give it a try. I didn't even glue the fabric, I'm just wearing the mask over the goggles and I think it works very well. Thanks for the suggestion mate!

Sorry for the lack of updates, things have been taking quite a while to ship. But today a big box from amazon is finally bringing things together for my homemade suit. I received my sweatshirt and my hoodie, both of which were a bit large, requiring some editing, but I'm pleased with the results. I freehanded the spider symbol and I think I did alright with that, I'm still waiting on the socks, and I'll be building the webshooters soon.
