Happy 40th anniversary, STAR WARS! :-)

Today, 40 years ago, was a special day. In a country (galaxy), far, far, away, beyond the great (Dune) Sea, something spectacular happened...

THE STAR WARS hit the theatres and changed our world forever. Let's celebrate this special day, grab your DVD and BD sets (and VHS tapes if they have still survived hundreds of hundreds of viewings ;)

), and watch A NEW HOPE. I won't stop you from binge-watching Eps V & VI afterwards (and maybe ROGUE ONE before ;) ), but well, it is Ep IV's great day.

Today, 40 years ago, was a special day. Let's celebrate this special day, grab your DVD and watch ROGUE ONE and then A NEW HOPE in a row.

While I'm not opposed to experimenting with back-to-back viewings of these two films at some point, this is hardly the day for it. R1 cannot hold Star Wars' jockstrap.

Happy 40th to the Greatest movie of all time!

Way ahead of you cantina denizens. Watched my 2006 DVD (old Laserdisc version) two nights ago watched TESB last night. Those original versions stand up just fine. Actually liked TESB a bit more this time.

I'd actually forgotten what Vader told Luke about, "Together we can defeat the Emperor, he's foreseen it. Together we can rule the galaxy together." Holy womprat stew, talk about a hard sell!

Someone throw Kennedy in an airlock and go find original elements and release the 1977 and 1980 versions on BD.

Not Kennedy's problem. Fox owns distribution rights or something. Too many people have to work together to make it happen.

but Spider-Man is in the marvel cinematic universe now, so anything is possible.

She gave an interview or something recently where she emphatically declared that the original elements were altered for the special editions, so there's nothing to restore or remaster. Left no ambiguity to it.

Combining my watch and prop replica passions together tonight....

Wow! 40 years ago, my folks took me to some strange movie at our local drive in. Close Encounters of the Third Kind. A fantastic movie with space ships, and a man seeking for the truth...

....Oh yeah, there was some other space movie, Star something...

Ok, yes I did see Star Wars 105 times between 77-79. All the fun re-releases.

Oh, and btw, for the love of God, please capitalize the "S" and the "W" in Star Wars!

Yep, I tried that but it seems that you can't edit the title of a thread. Everything was supposed to be in capital letters. When I submitted the thread, everything save the first letter was made small. Maybe an admin can help? :cry

EDIT: I have asked Art for help.

First off, happy REAL sTAR wARS day everyone!!!!

2nd. To KojiroVance, Love it! I took a few pics just like that a few days before rogue 1 was released in theaters just for fun.

I've never showed them to anyone, was just a random thought. I'm glad to see I'm not alone! (It's TIME for the Jedi... to end?)

This is an all original graflex that has an ANH configuration other than the position of the clamp and lack of bubble strip. My exactra strip was accidentally broken... so this generic ESB circuit board was standing in. I guess it's KINDA "TFA" in this pic? If it had the right grips and smooth glass eye bezel... (did anyone ever discover what that smooth bezel was about?)

Anyway...

Happy Star Wars day!

That was very well done T.

Shouldn't Disney have something better than that online already this morning?

But they don't.

Thank you :) I hand picked scenes and cut it altogether in a day. One would think so. Clearly they don't share the passion.

We don't even get a re-release of the original film :(

Happy 40th 05/25 Star Wars!!!

Anyone know of any kind of special collector release anything that may be happening today?

My passion for STAR WARS ( caps, dammit! ;) ) actually began with "Return of the Jedi". I was born on May 1st, 1977, so I was too young to attend the premiere. However, I will never forget the day when my mom came back from the shops and brought the Sand People and Jawa Kenner action figure with her for me. That was about Xmas of 1982 and got me hooked. I was thrilled, excited and was looking forward to seeing the movie at the theatres when it was supposed to be shown again together with TESB and ROTJ. Too bad our theatre did not show them in the correct order (they showed ROTJ, then TESB and then ANH for whatever reason). Unfortunately I got ill and was unable to attend the screenings. BSG, which premiered on TV in Europe shortly afterwards, filled a big void for me instead, and then, finally, almost ten years later, I was able to see the movie for the very first time on the small screen. I really hope that there will be a SW marathon at my cinema one day (I suggested it to the owners) so that I will have the chance to watch it on the BIG screen.

I agree, RO will never be able to compete with it (but I enjoyed it very much which is why I put it in the introductory post ;) ). ANH is a timeless classic which will never be surpassed by anything else. It changed our lives and the way movies were made forever. Honestly, I cannot think of ANY scene which does not bring back fond memories of the past to me and there are certain parts which STILL make me cry for joy whenever I see them, most notably the scene in which Luke steps outside to look at the sunsets on Tatooine. The gorgeous soundtrack added much to this scene. The miniature work is unforgettable, and Han ALWAYS shot first! :)
