CW Flash project (As and when budget/work allows)

Just started planning and sourcing materials for my CW Flash project (Unbeknownst to my fiancé - She'd kill me.)

Planning to start off with a morphsuit base, separate it into Torso, lower body and gloves, then apply faux leather for the material on the torso.

Stealing an idea from Irongreymon to use Tulip slick paint to create the material effect seen on the show's suit.

I'm working off a very tight budget (Paying for a wedding, with the possibility of a little one on the way next year), and with very limited free time due to teaching, so I'll call it an extended project.

Research

I need to obtain some high quality images of the back of the suit, but I think I've got every angle I need for the front.

Research into suit design.PNG

Given that I'm building the suit up around a morphsuit, I'm not too fussed in regards to templates for the shape. I know ad-lib might not be the best way to approach this, but I'll take my chances.

Budget

Given that I have no money, and possibly less come next year, this has to fit within a VERY tight budget.

I've currently got all the materials I need, aside from the faux leather, available for £118.18, which includes the sewing machine if my fiancé doesn't have one hidden away.
I've managed to source a supplier of faux leather in the style I want for £21.99 a meter, but I need to work out how much material I'll need for what I am planning to do.

I'll update the thread as I go, though I doubt there'll be massive progress to report for a while yet.

Began the more formal planning process (I'm a spreadsheet nerd, like all good teachers nowadays) and budgeted fully for it. I think I can get the whole outfit together for around £80.

Morphsuit
Needed to be a good shade of red, but since I'll be applying Tulip slick paint and faux leather to any of the morphsuit that is on show, I wasn't too picky.

Faux leather (RED)
My concern is that the faux leather will be too thick, but I'll face that issue when I get to it. Still calculating up have many metres square I'll need to get the job done, but at £11.99 a meter I'm hoping it isn't too much at all. (We're estimating around 3 meter squares)

Tulip slick paint (Red, black and gold)
Unfortunately, although I can source black and red both from hobbycraft, the gold remains elusive as of yet. Hopefully it will be back in stock prior to me working on finer details such as the gold.

Brushed gold vinyl wrap
Wasn't sure where to go for a supply of this, still may change my mind. Again, these will be last minute details, so not an issue as of yet.

Zips
These were very easy to source - got a choice between concealed zips (For the gloves, so I can get a snug fit) and regular (Since the lower body has fabric covering the zip anyway). The zipper at the rear of the morphsuit works for the front zipper on the costume (Again, thanks Irongreymon) so hopefully that shouldn't leave me needing to purchase anything else.

I know I'm posting a lot in the stages prior to actually starting any work, but this is the bit I'm most nervous about; making the purchases. I want to know I'm getting the right stuff, since I can't really afford too much trail and error on this (Try living with my fiancé, too many errors and my ass is on the line)

So looking forward to seeing this come together, all the reference pictures and planning is exactly what I did when I first started too, I love that part. It doesn't cost that much to put together, a little here and there every other month and before you know it you'll be the Flash ;)

Here's the link to the gold vinyl and gold fabric paint if you were looking for it btw.

Right, I finally found some money in amongst the move between jobs, wedding payments and a new car.

I've got the maroon morphsuit on its way and samples of four different materials to see what I'm happy with.

Turns out my fiancé has a lot of stuff already in the house, so the whole thing has gone from around £200 to about £75. I can't complain.

Once the suit is here and I'm happy with a fabric, I'll get to work cutting it to pieces :(

Hopefully I'll have the whole thing together by the end of September.

Finally got the morphsuit and samples. Found a good material to build up over the base suit.

Then I got to work butchering the suit. Had to separate the top from the bottom, lose the mask completely, then fix a belt to the inside of the bottoms so that they don't fall down.
Doesn't look like it fits properly at the moment, but I'll be creating a belt once the material arrives so that I can use it to velcro the bottom of the top in place. Otherwise I have a lovely crop top for the summer.

Next up is getting that leather material and starting to put this thing together properly. Can't bloody wait now.

Started getting the leather material attached to the suit, started out with a really poor running stitch to get it in position before going back over with a back stitch. Hopefully all will hold in place by the end. That or I call it a "battle worn" version of the suit.
