I don't know if EE was actually supposed to ship 'em this early, but I'm not complaining. It cost $109, rather than $99 on Amazon, for what it's worth. I bought my Mjolnir on Amazon and am probably going to have to wait for that one.

I only just got home, but I have time to respond and post more pics, so lets do that.

Hey @Ein Whats going on with the gap on the helmet? Just wanted to know if that is normal or a sizing thing?
    Attachment 745693
It is a normal thing. Edit: Not a normal thing. I failed to close the helmet fully. If you check the pics I'm attaching below, you'll see a little better. The hinge to get the helmet on and off was built in along that seam, so it's a bit bulkier than screen-accurate might necessarily be. I feel like it's a fair compromise under the circumstances - my 3d printed helmet has a fixed back plate, and getting it on and off is a nightmare.

Yea I ordered from Amazon as well...hope they ship them earlier but not banking on it...lol

The Paint job looks much better than the promotional photo's previously listed... Not sure if repainting will be needed...what say you @Ein
    .

EDIT: SEE BELOW. I FAILED TO FULLY CLOSE THE HELMET FOR THESE PHOTOS.

    Eyes off:

    Eyes lit in daytime conditions:

Paint job is good. Quite good, I'd say. The weathering is a little flat, but it's a mass-produced, $99 helmet. For what it costs, it's amazingly well put together. There are some details, like the ribbed hosing on the cheek pipes, which should in fact be silver as far as I know from my review of the actual Star Lord helmet. You could very easily repaint or add detail to some of those parts, I'd imagine.

Verdict so far: For $100, I honestly think it'd be stupid not to buy this if you have any interest at all in the franchise. I 3d printed my own helmet two years ago, and still have it, but would hands-down prefer wearing this thing instead. It's smartly designed, and I love it.

Wow that's so cool! I'm getting one made from the project runs here, but will probably use this one for going out on Halloween. That's gonna be a lot of fun

Yeah, I think I'll pass on this unfortunately. I just can't stomach how big it looks on a head. I get that it's a mass produced mask to fit most head sizes, but I fear they've just made it far too big.

I'm bummed, because I was really excited about this when they announced it

Amazon advertisement pictures show grid lenses and no seam gap. What gives?

    EDIT
The more I look at it, the more I'm convinced that gap is a defect or something.

I think your hinge was installed crooked. If it were flush instead of canted, the back piece would fit with no gap.

I agree. the images on Amazon to include the actual product boxing does not show that gap.
@Ein should also contact the company and see if that is intentional or not.

the other option is we will just need to wait until others get theirs to see if this is so.

    @Bellthazor @MrSouthpaw @Solo @Thain

So, interestingly, you guys are totally right. I assumed the hinge was fixed in position. Turns out I was suffering from a bit of user error there - the hinge can retract into the front of the helmet to flush the seam up. My helmet isn't defective, I'm just an idiot who didn't think to push too hard on it for fear of breaking something.

In my defense, the instruction booklet that comes with the helmet in no way makes this clear.

The grid pictured on Amazon in the eye lenses almost certainly just a prototype picture from a few months ago, pre-release. There are some minor variations between those photos and the paint job I have on mine, too.

Oh, good. Because that gap probably would have been a complete deal breaker for me.

I am still slightly disappointed that the lenses are not quite right. But they can likely be changed one way or another.

Not sure of the confirmed release date over here in the UK. Amazon seems to say 1st September while Forbidden Planet says the 20th. I've got mine preordered either way though.

To make up for my earlier blunder, I took a bit of time to look at the helmet in greater depth.

So I've now received two. One from Amazon and one from EE. Both have cloudy lenses. What gives?!

About the cloudy lenses: mine has the same issue (from EE). But I expect there will be a run of replacement eye kits by someone here soon. So I'm not bothered. 😎

Any idea the size of head this will fit? I've got a larger dome around 23-24"

Awesome. I'll have to grab one then. I was disappointed by their Stormtrooper helmet only in that I couldn't wear it.

Anyone else having problems with the helmet popping open on one side, behind the "ear", when being worn when you move your head around?

And especially, anyone with long hair/ponytail?

I haven't had a problem having it pop out of place, it did take me way too long to realize that it locks on the track on the top of the helmet where you open and close it.
if anyone is interested I put up some rough dimensional sizing shots on the definitive peter quill thread https://www.therpf.com/showthread.php?t=219777&page=114 because I forgot this thread existed
