Clockwise Movement with Gears

Hi,

I am planning to build something that will require clockwise movement with multiple gears.

I'm wondering if I can use an old servo motor to operate the entire piece.

Can servos keep constant speed/time with multiple gears?

Would a servo motor have too much torque?

The old servo in question is a Panasonic.

Servos aren't meant to run continuously, but short distances quickly for the most part (some are winch type). You could mod the servo by removing the stops and potentiometer, but then you just have a geared motor. There are much better options, inexpensive too and you can choose your speed by gear ratios then tweak via input voltage. Search on eBay fir gear head motors or geared motors, you'll find small metal geared units for as low as $3-4.

If you're using Arduino, a stepper motor would be your best bet. Complete speed and distance and can handle continuous service.

Here's a motor used by hobbiest a lot. Well they use the 5 volt version, but pretty much the same thing. I just bought ten for around 10 dollars.

This is a mod that changes it from unipolar to bipolar. It doubles the torque, and requires twice the voltage. They work as is if you don't need the extra torque.
