The Ultimate Guide to Lightsabers eBook

I love that you have done this. Really well done. It might be a good idea to keep a running version with changes and dates as you go of the document. Just in case somebody is referencing an earlier doc and the latest happens to be 3.2 etc or if for whatever reason you need to revisit some earlier thinking. Either way I'm extremely thankful for the work you put into this.

I do exactly that. :)
Title page lists the publication date, version, and a changelog will be on the last page.

Would be great if there were a permanent link to this here on the boards somewhere in my opinion ,so it was nice and simple for all rpf member's to access it without having to go through the posts. A smashing piece of resource.

I was hoping this could get stickied/pinned, but I don't know if I've ever seen a mod round here.

Thank you, really-- but like I've said, I am very nervous about printing it because it makes it much easier to then be seen as an item that could be sold.

Also, there will never be a final version! Information is always coming out. I've already got a new version in the works!

oh man this is exciting!!! (y)thumbsup

I'm working on building a Luke ANH using a replica graflex from Roman Props, and it came with a screw in the clamp slot. Roy's blueprint doesn't show it, and this PDF doesn't mention it for the ANH version but does for the ESB version. Based on that I assume it isn't supposed to be there, but in my previous research I didn't hear anything about it either way. The toe pic clearly shows it isn't there in at least some promo pictures, but I haven't seen it clearly enough in any screenshots. Since it is the only part of the original graflex flashgun that isn't used, I think it would be useful to explicitly confirm that is isn't used. Also the toe pic used is mirrored. I don't know if that was intentional, but having it that way is confusing because it contradicts the statement that the clamp is flipped on promo images, and the slot for the screw is on the wrong side of the clamp, so it doesn't match an actual clamp.

As far as I can tell, the screw is not in the clamp for the ANH version. I plan on building that saber soon myself.

I flipped the toe pic to match the screen orientation of the clamp since it is the clearest image of the thing.

No images from ANH show the clamp screw.

As for ESB, since there are so many props in use it's hard to say, but most people seem to think it is there.

I think you can see it in the R2 bump photo if you lighten it up.

My suggestion would be to contact d3po2u and see if he'll allow you to use this shot of the bubbles for the Vader ESB/ROTJ hero since it clearly shows the orientation of the circuit board underneath the bubbles:

Oh! Great catch! They look so similar!

And back to the clamp screw--

Not sure if it's the light, or if the screw was painted/sharpied/replaced to be black or if it's a trick of the light.

It was a version of that shot which I saw an "X" in the grip attachment. Also there's some rusty screw in the clamp there most likely, probably an original but it could have been replaced.

I've been looking at some more vintage photos and they made me think. It is always assumed that the Graflex clamp in A New Hope was not covered with tape (even though Roger Christian says he did, but we always like to think that he mixes up ESB with ANH). But is there any clear proof or screen caps with the logo visible? Maybe I stir up an ancient consensus, and I apologize for my ignorance perhaps, but I've never seen any images to show it.
If I look at these images, I'd say you would be able to see the Graflex logo. But instead, I even believe I can see the chrome tape on the clamp.

I'd say black screws with 85% certainty....

...on the prop in this image anyway. :)

I feel like they are screws, silver in some scenes, black in others. They were either painted and worn from handling, or shot as silver in some scenes, and painted to be less eye-catching at some stage.

EDIT: Roy's second post:

like a 1 inch chrome tape maybe?
