The best Vader helmet for $150...

For $150, you'd be lucky to get a Don Post classic action helmet that is beat all to hell. An unfinished helmet is around $600 these days if you are looking for a decent fiberglass one. It does fluctuate to a bit less than that. I think the best deal I ever saw on this board for a complete unfinished helmet was around $400

I went to starwarshelmets.com and they say there that
the Rubies Supreme is actually a good helmet. It says it
is comparable to the classic action. So I think i may grab
one of those from ebay. Any more advise.

The Supreme is basically okay. It's certainly no better than the old classic action. If you can score one for that price, I say go for it.

Dave :)

A friend has the Rubies Supreme Vader helmet and , for the money, it looks pretty good. You can pick 'em up for about $100 now.

the supreme is ok, but takes alot of fixing to make it right.

and if your lookin for a ROTS lid, northglass sells them for 400 and theyre finished and painted. i have 2 of them myself, but only paid 400 for the one. the first has some slight damage, i can fix, so the insurance settled with NG, and he sent me another one.

not as perfect as a MR is, but half the price, well, its a jump on it deal.

Can only recommend the Don Post Classic Action, but you'll be lucky to get one of those for less than $200.

The Rubies Supreme is a huge step down in accuracy, but you can get them for around $50 + shipping on eBay if you are patient for the right deal. To make it look really good, you'll need skills to mod it as pretty much the whole face and dome needs a serious over-haul. You'll end up using a lot of time and paying a lot of money to fix it up... if you are an accuracy nut.

I agree with NHM you can pick the Rubies up cheap enough but when you factor in the time you spend and the money you will spend on materials to get it looking ok you really wont be saving much if anything

I think the Rubies is a great project helmet. I had a ball doing mine and learned a lot. If you want to take some time it can look pretty decent.

I just picked one up on ebay for just under $75 shipped.

The only mods I have planned are:

*Heating and reshaping the neck
*Repainting
*New lenses
*Replacing the tusks.
*and maybe adding some thickness to the
inside of the dome.

Other then that I think I'll leave it. I'm picky but not
too picky. It does not have to be anymore accurate then that
for me. For the price I think it will be perfect.

New question now. What is the best Stormtrooper helmet
I can get for about $150?

I can assure you... once you get started... I really don't think you'll be able to stop... please prove me wrong! :thumbsup

Don't think you're gonna find a trooper lid for that price, unless it's a Rubies crappy helmet or a shoddy recast waste of time. Cheapest Trooper helmet I've seen that is actually worth the money paid is about $130 more than the price range you are scouting.

I figured as much, but it never hurts to ask. When
it comes time I'll spend the money.

What I'm doing is upgrading my display wall. I have a Vader
helmet hanging with a FX Vader saber and a trooper helmet
hanging with a trooper blaster on the wall about my fireplace.
The Vader helmet is the Rubies deluxe (not very nice), and
the trooper helmet is the Rubies crappy helmet you mentioned.
The display looks pretty good despite the helmets, but I want
to make it look better. So that is why I need to upgrade the helmets.

I just got my Helmet, and it is very warped. Before I can do anything I have
to figure out how to fix that. Even the dome is off. :/

I have been to the first link, but the second is new to me.
It rocks and gives me some ideas on how to fix the helmet.
I of course am not skilled enough to do most of those mods,
but it will get me where I want to be I hope.

If not is there anyone out there willing to give me a quote on
doing my helmet? Just reshaping, sanding and painting nothing fancy.

Unless you're referring to some extra warping, it's supposed to look like that. It's based off of an OT helmet, and they were very asymmetrical.

Yeah, mine is extra warped. That and the flaw of this particular
Rubies helmet. It is to wide, both the neck and face. This one
also has a wonky dome. I'm not sure I will be able to reshape it.
