KIT RUN HAS STARTED, SEE THE THREAD HERE
https://www.therpf.com/showthread.php?t=288779

so for the past year or so, ive been working on this prop off and on. with the enormous help of two friends that both own the real Horton magnum I was able to get the stock completed. i would like to give them both huge credit, but i will let them name them selves if they wish get blasted with questions from this thread :)

first off here is the cross bow that i started with, a compound Horton safari magnum

one of the more interesting things about this particular Horton, is that the factory had cut out the center in the rear of the stock. maybe this was really rare.....oops ! lol

i made marks where i wanted to remove material

this last summer my house was broken into and they took many things as well as my pc which had YEARS of collected studio model pics as well as all my own pics. so unfortunately i only have a few pics that i sent in emails i was able to retrieve .
here is a couple of the stock taking shape

the front of the stock had to be filled in, no easy task by any means since i was not able to find ANYTHING that would stick to this plastic stock.
the stock had to handled carefully since the nose broke free a couple times.

here the stock is in primer, one of about 20 + times i thought i was done shaping it.

all the while doing this, i was collecting all the accurate pieces for the side plates. oh my poor hobby account :(

but i finally got the last two pieces, the trigger discs @ $250 each !!!!!!! ouchy !!!!

so next comes the daunting task of finding the scopes. which i had already done, thanks to those thieves i had to do it all over again !! :angry

two original 4 x 20 scopes and the old single point scope

IMG_2812.JPG IMG_2813.JPG

next i was onto the side plates

IMG_3031.JPGIMG_3029.JPG
these plates will be taken to the metal shop as patterns to have more made.

IMG_3026.JPGIMG_3028.JPG

i waited to make the plates until i had the first casting from this

IMG_3000.JPG

I'm thinking of doing a small run of just the stocks if any one is interested.
there is metal threads cast in for the prod bolt

Oh, wow! Always wanted to do one of these!

In '98 I scored a Barnett Commando, since that's what was thought to be the correct crossbow.

If these castings are affordable, and offered for awhile, I'd love to get one, once my money starts rolling in again!

Lovely work, sir!!!

Also, what in the world are the trigger discs that make them so rare/pricey??

Re: THE ANH CHEWBACCA BOWCASTER, VERY ACCURATE !! just a little project

i would love to see how you do the prod and bow.....i have the base and some parts...just need some more pieces.

keep up the great work!!

Re: THE ANH CHEWBACCA BOWCASTER, VERY ACCURATE !! just a little project

the time and efforts you have invested in accurizing this frame has really paid off...it is nearly indistinguishable (sp?) from the real Horton now :thumbsup

Love the sideplates as well...looking forward to the finished blaster! Maybe YOU can finally offer an accurate front barrel support ;)

Re: THE ANH CHEWBACCA BOWCASTER, VERY ACCURATE !! just a little project

Thank you for the kind words guys.
If I could just find a reasonable machinist I could get the other stuff done.

Re: THE ANH CHEWBACCA BOWCASTER, VERY ACCURATE !! just a little project

*gape* the amount of info i just learned is ridiculous. you're freaking amazing

Re: THE ANH CHEWBACCA BOWCASTER, VERY ACCURATE !! just a little project

That scope set-up is awesome!!!
I have two vintage 4x20 scopes lying around, now what could I do with them hmmmmmmm :p

Re: THE ANH CHEWBACCA BOWCASTER, VERY ACCURATE !! just a little project

Fantastic work sir. I love all the info you're sharing.
Saddly I know how you feel, from having some things stolen over the years. Not near as much as it sounds like was taken from you, but still it's a huge violation. The death penalty should be extended to thieves.
If I can afford one, I'd love to purchase one of your castings when they become available.

Re: THE ANH CHEWBACCA BOWCASTER, VERY ACCURATE !! just a little project

Not bad at all, the body looks very good that's for sure.

Re: THE ANH CHEWBACCA BOWCASTER, VERY ACCURATE !! just a little project

Very nice! I know your frustration at thinking you had it right then having to change it again! Lol I envy you having the correct vintage scopes.... I used scoes found on the bay plus a resin one for my bowcaster. Great job!

I have two scopes in the by, with a small mod they will match

Re: THE ANH CHEWBACCA BOWCASTER, VERY ACCURATE !! just a little project

Very nice work so far on building that using what appear to be original knobs.

The side plates look good on your modified crossbow.

Interested now in a cast of the crossbow.

Re: THE ANH CHEWBACCA BOWCASTER, VERY ACCURATE !! just a little project
