Cape Help

I'm doing a custom Superman costume with a Man of Steel style cape. Now, I'm very tall (if 6'4" is considered very tall) and the only width I can find of the proper material is 60", so doing one from a single piece of fabric is not possible - at least a cape of the length I want. So my only option, as I see it, is to do a paneled cape. My question is, how do I do one with as few panels as possible, keeping in mind that I have never sewn before? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe pay a trip to the local fabric store and buy 2 yards (for your height) of the proper fabric. If you cant find the exact fabric than get on close enough to it.

The only fabric store around me is JoAnn, and they don't sell anything over 60" except muslin. And I am not using muslin for a cape lol.
Yes i can see that. Hmmmm... a walmarr maybe? If i am close to you i could ship it to you for pretty cheap:/.

Hey so I JUST finished a new Superman cape. In fact here's the video if you're interested!

I couldn't find anything bigger than 60" at Joann's either. So, I ended up just making it with four panels like my Dark Knight cape and making it big enough that when it's back you can't even see the seams. Here's the post on it:

That does look amazing. How'd you make it? What material did you use?

Has anybody considered a red decorative shower curtain? The kind you'd put on the outside of the actual waterproof curtain. Should be about 6 feet in length already and plenty wide enough.

This or if you can luck out and find a curtain/drape since they're normally around 84" tall. That's what I've been looking for for Thor.

G'day mate. Came across your query, hope you don't mind if I recommend Masked Rider right here on the RPF. Leslee would probably do you a custom jobby just like the MOS cape. Best quality there is!
Hope this is helpful!

Merry Christmas!!

Sorry for the very late reply. I don't mind at all. In fact I already tried going this route, but after sending several inquiries to him and not getting a response, I actually went to a costumer based out of Wisconsin and had it done. Turned out pretty good, but had to altered it as the neck hung about 8 inches too low. I actually got the neck to sit as it should, just have to figure out how to re-pleat the shoulders as when I made the alterations it eliminated the pleats. So I'm most of the way to the cape I want, if I can just figure out how to pleat without a sewing machine. Or skill.
