Laugh it up Fuzzball - Chewbacca Build

FAC142AD-2C3E-48F9-B3CA-D36AAEED65B7.jpeg Finished the front and about half of the back of one leg yesterday, probably not going to get much done today or tomorrow, need to clean the garage and re-arrange my woodworking tools.

Wow, that’s a lot of work. Isn’t it too dense? I don’t know what wookie builders say.?

I’m sure I’ll have to thin it out in some areas, but I want to get it all done first, then make sure there are no bald spots and then get a professional to thin and blend

In Mexico for a week, knew I’d have a few days with nothing to do like yesterday and today so I brought chewy along... I’m so glad I didn’t glue the mannequin togther it was easy to break down and bring in the suitcase. Anyways instead of bringing the pants to finish, I thought I’d see how far I could get in the shirt, my wife has even started helping add hair and is teaching me more about straightening hair.

It feels like it’s going to be too thin but I want to finish all of the shirt before I go back and add more, unfortunately I didn’t bring the grey hair mix but I still have a lot of brown to add

Working out of my mother in laws salon here in Mexico, almost finished with the brown on the body of the shirt a couple of more rows in the back and then I can start on the forearms

I think your build is coming along fantastically. Really nice to watch different ways to achieve the same build. It is very hard to get it 100% screen accurate and I certainly decided to meet my own build half way. We have to remember that Peter Mayhew was tall and skinny and that is very difficult to replicate unless you are very tall and skinny lol. I'd be interested to hear what product you will use to style your mask. I have used non silky hair spray and also tried Fudge Cement. Both give the hair a dark shiny look that I dislike.

Mine at the moment

once I got the grey done on the back I felt it was tooo grey so I’ve changed my ratio to 1:1:1 of 44:4:6 and I watched ANH and ESB this weekend and once scene he looks more grey, the next shot he looks more brown.... so I’m happy how he’s looking now.

on the mask I’m going to try to swap the springs with elastic because the stronger springs are too tight and the looser springs are too loose. I also think I need to trim some more of the under chin, I feel like my neck is getting in the way of me opening my mouth as wide as I should be able too...

i also took a day to draw out a pattern for the bandolier and I had to convert everything to cm for the guy in Mexico who’s giving me a quote on making it

Yikes, It seems to me its too dense. I would use less hairs per strand, like almost half.

As I told Ronin, I think even the undersuit is visible in the original suit but we don’t realize it because is camouflages with the fur.

Check my post on his thread:

I know we are not all as thin and tall as Peter Mayhew or Joonas, but to me the more fur the bulkier fatter the wookie looks.

Althought not exactly the same. Same dog, less fur, thinner look.

Keep going, you’re almost done knotting!

Finished the pants last night, now onto the arms, then we can thin it out and get it looking more like Chewbacca. My shoes have been added to the feet but as I went to put them on last night I noticed some duct tape that was not stuck down well and didn’t want to have hair stuck in it...

Wow thats a lot of work!!!!! .

On the down side! Now I see why it seems so dense to me. To me your mesh suit it too loose, it should be fitted to your body, just as the undersuit. With it so loose is like a sharpei dog excess skin and fur.

But hell, thats a lot of progress, once all is done I hope you can trim it and style it and hopefully it will look a lot better.

Sure the arms are a little bigger than the should be, but I needed room in the chest for the cooling vest, and if I had made the pants more form fitting it would look horrible where my natural foot meets the Wookiee foot. I haven't decided if I'm going to wear foam shins to fill out the lower pants leg yet, but some people do to help hide the foot bump...

I don’t know about those cooling vests, or how wookie builders do it. But to me, “less is more”; less cloth, less fur, less weight, less heat, less carrying, less fuss.

Once that vest runs out off power or water its gonna get really warm and cozy, nice and sweaty. :D

I would definitely fill the shins with some sponge or light foam to shape the lower leg and avoid that double knee-bump look. And probably leave the legs backside foam less for ventilation.

Do you have any pictures of your Wookiee costume?

What?! No I don’t, I’m not crazy. Don’t you know how much work it is!?, How expensive it is?, How easy it is to end up with Shiu-bocca, Chewie’s second-cousin’s-neighbor? How hard to get all the nuances right?... the thought did occur to me, and I did some research, and I’ve done some additional digging following these wookie builds, but I’m not crazy [emoji12]

Right now I’m busy building my 4th Vader helmet because previous 3 were not up to par. So I get it. It is hard.

I’m just trying to help a fella and point to the right direction, ‘cause I might go nuts one day and try it, and I’d like a fellow to point out what I may be overlooking. I’m sure I will hate it, but it will drive me to get the best costume I can get.

So Kudos to these wookie builders. Keep it up!

Still working on the arms, but I’ve been distracted by some personal stuff and remaking the feet. Easter Sunday I was walking around in my Wookiee feet and hear a pop, the styrofoam fire the toes snapped off so it was back to the drawing board... I like the new design and with the plywood center I don’t have to worry about breaking the foot, at least Chewys foot. the other wookiee distraction has been working on the bandolier and Wookiee purse...
