Gus do we order from the RPF thread or off of you site?

Chris

I received my revell kit today, it was double boxed (triple if you count the full color box). It was interesting, they packed it in the cardboard revell box with all the lot information from the company. This one was labeled number 527 of 2000.

Where do you see a number?

The number was not on the model, it was on a white label with all of the model info(manufacture date, lot no. and so on) on the outside of the brown revell box. The the typical revell marked box that you would find in stores was inside this box.

So a question for those who bought on eBay from Russia, did eBay automatically update your tracking info with a usps tracking number once it entered the usps system? I order more stuff from Russia and I've been tracking my shipment. It has shown released from Russian customs for two days now, but eBay has never updated tracking history to show the package movement. I've just been using the Russian post tracking site.

Here's my cheap alternative to a Tamiya hobby drill for doing the FO - a tiny 12V DC motor with 600RPM reduction gearbox and a mini chuck on the end, for the sum total of 5 quid. I also bought a PWM speed controller in case it was still fast enough to melt the plastic, but it seems perfectly fine without.

Sample holes in the sprue tab.

The only small problem is the motor shaft is a fraction smaller than the chuck, so it's a bit of a sloppy fit. Need to shim it out with something.

Just to bump this - I spent much of the weekend finally drilling holes in my SD with my Frankendrill and have to report it worked perfectly. The only small issue is the chuck doesn't run true so the end of the drill wobbles until you get it into a pilot hole, but after that it's fine. I used a pointed scriber just to press a pilot into the plastic at each location and then drilled away.

The motor is rated 12V but was getting quite warm to the touch. I ramped it down to 7.5V and it's much cooler, but still drills fine. Takes only a couple of seconds per hole, with no melting plastic!

Little bump too - bought Gus' deflector domes and hangar, both of which are FANTASTIC upgrades, that require really very, very minimal modifications to install (only caveat being the antenna on the domes are really, really close to scale-accurate in terms of diameter, and DO tend to break off if you breath on them wrong!). Also received Antsnest's lighting kit, and while I haven't had a chance to install it yet as I'm still drilling holes, it looks fantastic in warm white, with some subtle flicker in the engine lights, and a cool routine that it cycles through. Heartily recommend both!
