Re: Molding axe head?

I would do the 2 part mold..with the seam line down the flat side of the head (the red dotted line).

Is that a real axe head or is it plastic?

Re: Molding axe head?

The picture is a real axe head. I didn't think to make a mold down the center. But I think that makes alot more sense than the way I was going to do it. Any recommendations on what a good casting rubber would be? Planning on using MOLD star 30 for the silicone mold.

I would actually use one of smooth-on's flexible foams instead of a rubber.

Re: Molding axe head?

I'm curious how to go about molding an axe head. I plan on casting a rubber axe head and attaching a real wooden handle onto it. Would it be best to add clay to the hollow space in the axe head where the handle goes, then cut that space out for the handle..or can I make a 2 part mold and leave the hollow space and cut one side of it and slip the casting out so it molds exactly how it is? Im thinking that might be more ideal if possible.

Did you ever get the molding made?
