Just Another DeAgostini Falcon (FINISHED)

Re: Just Another DeAgostini Falcon

Thanks bwise but I'm still trying different settings, my phone camera isn't picking up all the detail.

Re: Just Another DeAgostini Falcon

Got some work done on more lights, painted the corridor floors waiting on some issues so that I can finish the corridors.

Re: Just Another DeAgostini Falcon

Just a quick update, I have been using some Aluminium adhesive foil tape for light reflection, it sticks down really well and contours well around curved and tricky angles. 25m roll of ebay for less than 5 bucks, bargain.

Re: Just Another DeAgostini Falcon

G'day vj. ( that o.k.? ) , really admiring your build so far , especially the scratch-built components in the hold area . Just wondering where did you get the dimensions for the vertical support beams ( posts Sept 22 & 26 ) ? . Was hoping to attempt something similar , but would like to be as accurate as possible ( fingers-crossed ) . Any help appreciated . Keep up great work and please keep posting :thumbsup . ged

Re: Just Another DeAgostini Falcon

Hey ged, vj is fine.

Re the scratchbuilt vertical support beams, I used the profile that came with the kit, item 4 from issue 13. Traced the item and made a template from paper and once happy with the fit and look started making them out of styrene. Done pretty much the same for the other side, had to figure out the size of the large pipe that runs through the middle first, then worked around the pipe, I got a length of 15mm PVC pipe from Bunnings for only a couple of bucks (the outside diameter is about 21mm).

Never had any dimensions took screen captures with VLC player.

Hope it helps.

Re: Just Another DeAgostini Falcon

Hey VJ. Great start to the build. Looking really good.

I am also just starting, but have some questions about lighting. Are all the lights you are adding plugging into the existing DeAg board ? Or are you doing a new board to fit it all on ? Would be great if you could show some pics of the cables from the lights coming together and explanation about the electrics.

Myself (and a I'm guessing others) struggle when it comes to modding electrics & lighting.

Hey Portaler.

I will have the lights plug into the existing DeAgo board, they would have spare plug on the board otherwise it shouldn't be to hard to hi-jack a few plugs. It's just because I am not to savy myself with electrics and wouldn't know where to start with a board of my own. I do however wire all my LED's in parallel with the proper calculated resistor for a 12V power supply. This is the site I use. I then end up with "groups" of LED's which I wire into Terminal Connector Strip which will wire into another Connector strip which will "thin out" my wires. I used the same technique on my SD.

Not sure if I will be doing the landing lights yet. But hope this helps.

Re: Just Another DeAgostini Falcon

Been working on the cockpit lights, it got a little bit fiddly but worked out good in end. Just a few light leak issues, shouldn't cause to much of a problem. Not sure what to do about the canopy, keep it, wait for the revised or buy one from shapeways.

Re: Just Another DeAgostini Falcon

While waiting on issues I thought I would re-do the maintenance hatch light as I wasn't 100% happy. Just waiting on the top halves for the corridors then I can finish the lights, then the cargo hold and corridors will be complete.

Got bored, thought I would have a look and see what it looks like.

Re: Just Another DeAgostini Falcon

Cancelled my subscription with Bissett and they still owe me two issues that have been back ordered since last September. I have organised my issues now with a newsagent, pick up issue 48 today. Yay. Just have to organise 14 back issues.

Re: Just Another DeAgostini Falcon

Hey vj. , just replied to your helpful post over on the other site re; card/board . Thanks again .
Sorry to hear things didn't go so well with Bissett for you , and yeah 14 issues ( in one go ! ) , will certainly put a dent in your wallet . I hope your build will go smoothly from now on , from what you've been sharing of it so far it looks brilliant . Would like to know what you used for the lamp/light outside of the ' kissing room ! ' in post #35 - pic #4 .?

Thanks again , Ged .

Re: Just Another DeAgostini Falcon

I actually used a glue stick from my hot glue gun, cut to size and then filed to shape. Stumbled across this by pure accident while I was looking for something else. Drilled a hole in the wall to suit a 3mm LED with a resistor that gave it just enough light to not overpower from the rest.

Re: Just Another DeAgostini Falcon

Great improv , vj . Might just borrow that idea if you wouldn't mind .

Cheers Ged :thumbsup

Re: Just Another DeAgostini Falcon

Don't mind go for it. Also the Long life floor polish, yes it's an Aussie version of that ' pledge / future ' stuff.
