Bandai 1/72 PG Millennium Falcon (also the Revell Germany rebox)

Re: Bandai 1/72 Millennium Falcon

In the full pic you can see three x-wings and I'm pretty sure they are MPC since they have been confirmed to be used on ESB and ROTJ.

@Jaitea , do you think that's an mpc xwing behind that 2nd photo of that falcon ?

So the MPC falcon is indeed...screen accurate!?!? LOL! I hope the heads of some here dont explode! LOL!
Maybe. Taking test shots with it and using it in the film are two different things. Has anyone spotted an MPC in the movies?

There are several. Just last year one of them was sold in the Prop store auction with the story board of one of the shots that it was used in, which was at the beginning of ESB when they escorted the Rebel transport and shot the Star Destroyer with the ion cannon. They were mostly used for far away shot like Luke's approach to Cloud City and the big battle at the end of ROTJ.

I could be wrong, but from what I've gathered it was never in the movie. They had the 10"(?) model and the 32" and an even a smaller falcon didn't they?

My guess is the MPC was probably just used early on as a stand in for setting up shots while the 32" was being built, or so that they didn't risk damage to the 32" when not actually filming.

I wonder if the side walls had been more accurate height wise if it would have made it in the final movie :lol

that's the orginal 1/43 to 1/48 ish MPC one. It's got an amazing paint job on it

Just another example that you don't necessarily need a 100% accurate uber detailed model to wind up with an amazing display piece.

Just a top notch paint job

Very cool! I should have clarified that I was just referring to the MPC Falcon.

Re: Bandai 1/72 Millennium Falcon

I don't know of any. I had heard a rumor that it was used in the asteroid scene in ESB, but can't confirm. Also it doesn't look like the MPC in that shot.

Re: Bandai 1/72 Millennium Falcon

The MPC Falcon was used for video storyboards, flown around by hand by a person wearing a blue suit in front of a bluescreen. so it can be chromakeyed onto the background. This was specifically mentioned by the crew in period articles. As far as I know the MPC Falcon did not appear on screen.

Does anyone know which Revell model ILM used?

Looks smaller than Revells 1/48 ANH x-wing and must be something that was available before Empire.

Is it the Revell Takara 1/72?

These would have been the MPC kits, later repoped by AMT/ERTL.

Re: Bandai 1/72 Millennium Falcon

Who says they purchased it in the US?
Im sure LFL could have gotten a hold of them regardless
Besides, the scale is just about right for the prop size

The scale of the MPC is also about the same. And why go to the trouble to obtain a foreign made kit when the US made kit is readily available in every drug store? Besides the Takara kit was different, and the pics that have been seen from ILM look just like the MPC.
