So does this mean that the other severed hand being touted as original is fake?
It might have been a first attempt, or another try at filming that scene. This prop/prosthetic seems to match the screen version to me, with the way theres a "sleeve section" with a handle

Don't think it's a Kobold. the base knurl is too thick. More like that on the bottom of a Strobonar 64b. The red button is also not a graflex part. And yes, it looks like it has transcriptor knobs in the sockets, but with a bit of a shallower slope.

    Dan
Zoom in on the image you posted the bit where it joins has a small curve, and if you look at the band between the track it looks like the slider groove for that little switch on the Kobold. The one I used on my Vader has a bottom identical to this with the knurling pattern.

Just noticed too you can see the bulb holder too. Kobold for sure.

Here is the picture of the saber from the Generations Science Fiction book, I have a few more pics of other SW props in my collection thread - didn't want to clutter the thread here:

    Thank you so much man!

I would say it's just a turned piece of metal, but it's dirtier than the graflex tube. It does actually look like it came from something..

and were there wider transcriptor knobs?

it looks like the knurled shoulder of the Kobold is flat..

Also, shooting in the dark...Whoa, what if the second red button on the ESB hero came off this monstrosity, and then they had to mock up a "hand" saber and made do? Also, this throws another graflex into the mix, the ANH hero could have been any of these, it seems they had quite a few

Did one of the various Kobold iterations have a red indicator? Maybe that's where it came from. Or did the red knob get added when converting one to a droid caller?

You're right. I've had a Kobold with a red lens.

Unless I'm mistaken, that control box has the same profile as a Kobold clip, but with a flat bottom, not curved. Like [_]

The fake button has softened edges and I don't see knurling..what the heck is this!? (could somebody machine this with the threading for a graflex eye/button?)

Thanks again. The control box looks like aluminium sliding t-track so yes similar in shape (but not dimensions) to a Kobold clip. And there's a block under the right side with a hole in it - probably for attaching to whatever it came from.

Button looks like thick steel tube with a red plastic cap (possibly from a Kobold) inside. But with the nicely beveled edge it's more likely a found part than custom machined.

That block could be what's holding it to the saber, a countersunk screw or something, good eye

Or part of it, it probably has to have two screws to stay put

Eye socket looks like another brass part they have laying around that screwed in. Guess the threads matched so they threw it in there

What do you think it is shaped like? It looks to me like its a cone, just like the socket, pointing inwards. but thats nearly an optical illusion but it could also be something flat.

...what if the control box is rectangular stock with a section taken out of it.

What kind of monstrosity of a G R A F L E X hybrid is this??? ... This is to much to take in ... the solutions those propguys came up with seems to astound me even till this day ... not to mention having been fooled since 1981 when Vader lopped off Luke's hand ... the utter horror ... Okay I have to lay down to fully recover from those pictures

Since this monstrous variation was in fact the last version seen on-screen in ESB how funny would it have been in TFA for Maz's box to open and Rey see this?

Maz: "That lightsaber belonged to Luke..."

Rey: "Did it? 'Cause I'm sensing that the bottom half is somehow completely off and what's that cone knob thing...?"
