Complete! Cinderella 2015 Gown

Re: Cinderella 2015 Gown

Swoon! I can't wait to see pictures of you in it! So happy for you, it is beautiful! I wish I could see it in person.

Took off the iridescent layer and trimmed up the hem.

I made a new yoke for the iridescent layer and put it into it's own waistband.

Purple layer, then teal layer.

Finally! I need to add the waistband, debulk, and add the closure. The top skirt needs to be finished rhinestoned and sewn up the back, then everything needs trimmed and hemmed and the back closures reinforced.

But I'm almost done with the skirts, finally.

I decided to use the official costume pattern for the corset and bertha. I sewed the lining to the coutil because the bones are going in this layer. I also lengthened the front and the back as the pattern wasn't as generous in either as the movie costume.

Re: Cinderella 2015 Gown

The costume is mostly done! I just need to get some pics as I was sewing madly for DragonCon and didn't have time to take a lot of progress pics.

One of the shoes. There are a ridiculous number of rhinestones. I put them on using Aileen tacky glue for gems and they stick very well. The butterflies were flat charms that I leafed with 24k gold, then very gently bent. I glued them onto clip on earring backs, then glued a small piece of felt on the inside of the clip where it touches the gems.

Re: Cinderella 2015 Gown

I didn't wear them much, they're mostly just for photos. I'm horribly pronated so prolonged wear would just shear them off on me. But, the tacky glue seems to work very well. I applied a layer over all the gems after they were glued on and that's keeping everything in place without dulling the sparkle.

I'm not entirely happy with how the bertha came out in front. You can see I did use a shoulder strap with elastic in it to help keep the bertha in place and not droop, though. My zipper broke and I need to steam the corset again, so it's hanging a little funky. I will be remaking the corset once I've lost the rest of the weight I'm aiming for, it's already a little big on me now.

Butterflies are next. I'm going to make those out of a base iridescent layer with a layer of the crystal organza over it in all the colors and some rhinestones on top.

I'm just using the J Hart tutorial for the wig, but without curling it. I'll probably finish styling it this weekend. All I have done so far is the braid headband.

Re: Cinderella 2015 Gown

And then school ate every single second of my day until now so I haven't made any further progress. This gave me time to realize the top skirt isn't as full as I'd like, so while I have the yoke open to shorten it, I'm going to go ahead and add in two more circle skirts to the top layer.

I've not competed, so I've no idea what classifies one as "novice" but seeing your technique, and gorgeous final results, it looks awfully professional to me.

Congratulations! Your dress is a skillfully crafted work of art.

I'm trying to sew parts for my kids' Halloween costumes and the most frightening thing about the costumes is how badly I sew! I wish I had your talent with fabric.

Beautiful job on your costume. When you first started this last year I decided to start my own version for my daughter. Due to some last minute changes for last Halloween I decided to abandon this project for a while. Come around to 2017 and I picked it up with the intent of finishing for this Halloween. After a few sleepless nights I finished my version too. Thankyou for presenting your working as this is what a predominately used for my process. Thanks again.

Not the most flattering picture, but my dress won Dragon Con 2017 Best Novice! More pictures to come and then this sucker is complete... until I redo the corset. Again.
Gorgeous replica! Great craftsmanship on the costume. Congratulations on the prize, you deserve it! I'm hand-sewing my petticoat at the moment, and it's a horribly long process  I'm hoping to debut my 2015 Cinderella at MCM Comic Con in October!
