I just recently finished a Captain Boomerang costume for this year's convention and event use and I decided to make a pair of "Convention Friendly" boomerangs. Conventions are becoming more and more strict when it comes to cosplay props and weapons. The latest is prop weapons need to be cardboard or foam only. Okay, fine, that is what I did. Cheap, easy and simple and I tried to make the look good and slightly used.
First I came up with a template design I liked, so I used CW's Arrow Captain Boomerang's boomerang look. It may not be 100% accurate but I like it.
Then I drew it out on some craft foam, glued two sheets together and cut out the template. I then cut out the holes with a handy hobby knife and drew in where I need to bevel the craft foam
I then beveled the edges and added a base coat of black Acrylic paint.
I then dry brushed the piece in silver
I like how this came out. Simple, easy and con friendly...so long as you don't throw it at the con.
