Not that there was ever any debate, but it's never been clearer than this that the grips are a hard T track material, as evidenced by the shattered one.
And it looks like there is some kind of circuit board UNDER the calc bubbles....

This saber has just had some good footage of it on a channel 5 documentary in the UK as well as an original YWING.
