Bandai X-Wing - Red 5

After finishing my Bandai Snowspeeder recently it was time to take a crack at something else.

X-Wing time.

Here it is. I have tried to get a reasonably good representation of Red 5. While I haven't busted a gut to go full studio scale I have tried to come up with something that looks about right.

Challenges:

1. Masking was a bit of problem, especially the red 5 markings on the wings. I was pretty sure I didn't want to use the stickers or decals so all the panel colours are masked and airbrushed. The only stickers used are the spirals on the laser arms.
2. Painting the pilot, still trying techniques for painting small figures.
3. Base colour. I did a lot of research and found that there are a few arguments going on out there, much like the Falcon about what the right colour is. I just went for something that looks good. The base I used was 10ml or Tamiya white (X-2), 1ml Deck Tan (XF-55) and 0.5ml of Light Grey (XF-66), this gave me a fairly good whitish grey. It also makes quite a lot so I have enough for other models, maybe the Y-Wing.

Really nice work, make me feel confident in the colour too as much messing about I ended up with a similar mix and looking at great yours turned out, can't wait to finish it. Great job!

That is the exact same base colour that I used!
