There isnt a great deal of things to get this up to scratch. I am going to light it with a 9V battery and several LEDs,also i will modify the existing fixtures to suit the components i have,i need to find a decent place for the switch aswell.

Im going to use the decals provided instead of painting all the different panels as i think they will look nicer scratched up. Also the pipework needs minor changes.

I thought i would start with the blocky pipe work:

I used 0.5mm styrene rod and it seems to be a good match for the tube size.

Some more progress will be posted tommorow :)

Yeah! That's was I'm talking about, that's the way I would go. Love placing pipelines :lol

Re: Bandai 1/144 Millennium Falcon build awakens!

The pipe mods look great! Might have to do that to mine. I wasn't pleased with the filled flat pipes when I first looked at them.

He's using .5mm rod.

Thank you, Robiwon. I swear my attention to detail is fading by the day. I didn't even see that he DID say what size it was under the photos until your post made me go back and read his again. :facepalm My attention span is getting worse and wor.....oh look, a penny!!

Re: Bandai 1/144 Millennium Falcon build awakens!

Okey, some progress....

I have started the painting, if i could offer some advise to anyone building this falcon, it would be this> assemble it before painting as it becomes very difficult to fit the parts especially the very delicate ones. Also take extreme care in removing the delicate parts from the spru, they are not forgiving.

I have primered and painted the sidewalls and pit areas, also the battle damage has been added with a rotary tool.

I made a battery fixture for the 9 volt square battery and also began painting the cockpit, landing gear and gunwells.

The wiring system soldered minus the switch which i need to buy.

Next step is to start the main colour and get some decals going.

You forget the scale until you see things like the 9 v battery fitting...very cool thanks for the heads up on the plastic

Re: Bandai 1/144 Millennium Falcon build awakens!

I laid down the main colour...

I mixed some Tamiya Flat White with a little Royal light Grey and a dash of Deck Tan,seems like a good match to the instruction manual pics.
I dont have many other reference pics besides the trailers so thought id stick to the manual :)

I masked all the sidewalls and pit areas and did one coat, then took off the masking and ghosted over those areas as well as another full coat on the main hull.

Next step decals :)

Re: Bandai 1/144 Millennium Falcon build awakens!

The decals are finally complete after many many hours of eye straining. I used Microscale industries decal softner and setting solution.

I did apply the decals to the engine vents but found even with the softner it would not conform to the very fine detail of the vent mesh, so i removed the decals and used a black wash. The vents look much more pleasing to eye IMO.

I also painted in the blaster damage ready for the airbrush to go on over it. I scraped the decals to give that worn look the falcon has.
.
Also i added the landing gear and tested the dish out as well.

I decided to add a couple of fibre optics to give the cockpit a bit more light. I got jelous of Pinousses thread and copied his idea. although he has fancier flashing colours, mine sadly does not lol.

Next step, airbrushing some panel streeks, blaster damage and engine vent dirt.

Many thanks for viewing :)

Very nice build so far. I love the fact that a kit this detailed can be lighted and built so fast by many people. Bandai has spoiled us!!!
