Red Hood Arkham Knight- Finished...for now

Hey everyone, just thought I'd pop by and show what I've been doing for the last week or so in prep for Halloween. I'm beginning to think I might be obsessed with the Arkham Knight character aesthetic seeing as how this is my second costume from the same title....Third if you could me re-doing Scarecrow (for sale by the way, wink, wink, nudge, nudge).... Anyhoo, the plan is to have a decent on a budget costume done before the Halloween Weekend. The helmet as you will see is going to be sculpted out of clay and then molded. Ill be handling the visor in one of two ways: 1. physical holes and slits in strategic areas for simple spatial awareness (low budget/ out of time) or using the method here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JQPVOvSHaAM to achieve the one way, red mirror effect. The rest of the costume will be found objects, modified clothing and foam. Now as some of you are well aware, this particular Red Hood has a very special set of hand guns that combine into a rifle.......that was going to happen until the 3D printing lab said it was too much to print in such a short amount of time -_- super bummed about that, had all the engineery stuff figured out too. so instead ill just get two solid versions carved out via CNC.

Enough of me yapping, PICTURES!!

The helmet: 95% ready for molding

Humble beginnings for the jacket (sorry about the orientation of the image, the uploader keeps rotating it)

Your "humble beginnings" already look great! I'll be keeping an eye on the progress...

Again, sorry for the orientation of the images. I have no idea why it keeps rotating my images in random directions. I swear they were both right ways up.

Re: Red Hood Arkham Knight

sorry for the lack of updates, I had made a lot of progress over the last couple days and was going to post them up yesterday evening after I de-molded the helmet but......while prying the mother mold off the silicone a small chip of the ultra-cal shell chipped off and flew directly into my eye. luckily chip was no bigger than my pinky nail so it didn't have the mass to do any real damage but I did still have to go to the emergency room because there was a visible mark on my cornea. Kinda outs a kink in your plans, full recovery expected though.

Anyway, on to the build. I've managed to finish the greaves, almost finished the chest façade as well as the magazine holsters an have a really cool surprise at the end of the post.

And the coolest thing I've done for this project thus far.

The rough cut using a 1/4" bit

The detailing using a 1/16" bit

Unfortunately, because some of the details I drafted were smaller than 1/16" they didn't end up cutting so I'll end up etching them in by hand.

Re: Red Hood Arkham Knight

I managed to cast a helmet from the good mold this weekend and get it painted up. Its not a perfect cast but itll do for Halloween. Ill clean up a separate casting at a later time and when I have more plastic.

Anyway

Re: Red Hood Arkham Knight- Helmet 95% finished

Everything is looking great! Mind giving us some more info about those greaves? Trying something similar for my Arkham Robin and would like to get some insight.

Thanks,
Aeric

Re: Red Hood Arkham Knight- Helmet 95% finished

Unfortunately I threw out the pattern piece I made but they're just EVA foam mats and detailed with a woodburner. as for the shape I just used my heat gun at about 600 degrees. the form I started with is just my unbent leg so the kneecap sticks out as far as possible. after I have the general curve of my leg I worked the kneecap out further with my thumbs (just slowly stretching it out) and then repeated the process with the bottom to flare it out a bit. from there its just craft foam for building up and burning the lines in with my woodburner. finally just using some straps from a local store.

Re: Red Hood Arkham Knight- Helmet 95% finished

got everything all finished up for Halloween this weekend. Not entirely happy with how a lot of stuff came out but I'll probably end up doing some things again.

Here's the helmet. I CAN SEE!!

And here are the guns, unfortunately the mdf I used wouldn't smooth out properly but they more than get the job done for now. I still have the 3d files for the handguns that can combine into the rifle so that might happen sometime in the future.

Speaking of which, would anyone be interested in a pair of handguns sometime in the future? It would be much easier to justify spending the money at Shapeways if I knew I could make some of it back.
