Been following this thread here:

http://www.therpf.com/showthread.php?t=237811&page=13

and hunting around for the fabrics required, i cant find any fabric here in the UK in London = home of haberdashery with fabric shops dotted everywhere including ones that are over 100 years old ! I found one fabric in a small shop in Mayfair but it was £74 a meter so no chance lol.

High end budget :
That the fabric used /sold by Sni9er is £20 a meter . Then there is the pleated fabric is around £8 a meter, with all the pleats we are looking at 15 meters, the cloak and cape, hood and outer garment is about 5 meters and that's being very stingy.

So fabric cost alone :£220- this is not including thread and lining cotton !

Most of you have seen the costumebase one but for those who havent :

so on a non established character who has not even been aired on film yet would it meet 501 standards if i changed the gloves, and belt ? Since the standards have not been set yet ?

What changes would it need to be screen accurate since we only have the celebration pictures to go by ?

As I mentioned on Facebook, there aren't any standards to meet yet because they haven't been set. They're still being worked on. I doubt this will be approvable though because the fabrics are incorrect (monk's cloth is the minimum so far for the hood/outer layer), and it doesn't have all the layers necessary

Me wearing the XL

Saw this costume on Ebay from Costumebase and decided to take the plunge. Not bad for the price of $179. Going to have it altered but it'll do. :)

From what I have seen over on the Sith Lord Detachment forum (the dedicated forum for those building Sith lord costumes for the 501st Legion) the photos in the first post would not work if you are going for approval.

There is no CRL officially posted on the 501st Legion Site but they have just completed their first draft of the Kylo CRL draft on the forum recently.
I have included a direct quote below of the draft as it stands today but this may and will likely change so I would highly recommend that If you want to build an approvable Kylo Ren that you join the SLD Forum and begin researching through the numerous excellent build threads there. There are truck loads of people willing to help you out with an questions you have.

This thread is intended to help create the CRL for Kylo Ren. The LMO has final say/approval for content.

I will try to keep this first post up to date as suggestions for each section as they come in. One additional note, we are working on the basic approval level, we can add the advanced tiers later on as the movie comes out and we acquire better references.

Helmet
Basic:
- Helmet is asymmetrical in design with 5 chrome ridges and be proportional to the wearer, the helmet should extend past the chin but not past the bottom of the neck.
- The costumer's eyes are blacked out, this can be achieved with a sheer piece of material or a dark tinted lens that mask the wearer's eyes, however it should be matte and reflect minimal light

Level 2:
- The cheek holes are lined with black material. The helmet is painted a dark gunmetal grey and is slightly shaded darker at the cheeks where the chrome color is wearing off, there should be visible gouged damage consistent with the screen used helmet on the right top side of the dome

Level 3:
-The rear of the dome should feature dents and depressions consistent with the screen used helmet as well as accurate groove lines (only toy references currently available)

Outer Robe
Basic
- The robe is black in color
- Monks cloth or a suitably textured facsimile may be used if no other material can be found
- The upper outer robe should be seamless over the shoulder and feature a seam line on the front, sides & rear center of the costume
- The lower outer robe should be constructed of four panels with splits on the center front, sides and rear and be floor length
- The outer robe should be a tailored fit at the chest and stomach.

Level 2:
- Basket weave fabric with a draft (weave pattern) is no more than 6 squares per square inch and no more than 3 weaves per square in either direction.
- The two rear panels should have more gather than the front and feature two vertical pleats approximately 5 inches left and right of the centerline from just under the belt line
- The material on the shoulder edge is rolled and sewn to the lining under the top of the shoulder

Level 3:
- The basket weave is coated to match the screen used fabric and has a reflective/metallic sheen without significantly affecting drape. The weave is an equal 2x2 pattern and there are 4 squares per square inch. It is also slightly see through and features a finer interwoven stabilizing layer

Mid Coat
Basic:
- Plain black fabric may be used
- The mid coat may be simulated by beginning at the waist down (sewn into outer robe waist)
- Should be cut into four panels in line with the outer robe, the length is almost as long as the outer robe
- The military style collar approx. 1.5-2 inches tall.

Level 2:
- Mid coat should be made of black twill wool
- The lower mid coat features four panels.

Under Tunic
Basic
- The under tunic neck and body are pleated at any area seen by the naked eye, the 4 panel belled skirting should be included as well.

Level 2:
- The tunic is made from a natural fiber and the edge piping is a twill weave
- The under tunic is constructed with one split at the front starting from the lower belt line and features a piped seam line on the left and right sides as well as piping on the edges of the lower panels and arm holes

Level 3:
- The piping is made from a tight weaved cotton

Under Tunic Arms
Basic:
- The under tunic arms are made with a matte black fabric that can be sewn into the under tunic body and can be sewn into the under tunic with an offset seam (making it appear as if it is on a separate layer) or sewn onto an entirely separate layer for ease of construction.
- The pleats should be no more than 1.5 inches apart.

Level 2:
- The tunic is made from a natural fiber that has the look of donegal weave made of cotton
- The under tunic arms must start from the shoulder under the “under tunic” layer and end at the base of the thumb (overlapping the gloves) and must feature a zipper beginning at the armpit ending at the base of the thumb following the inside line of the arm.

Neck Seal:

Basic:
- The neck seal should be placed under the under tunic layer and feature 4-6 inverted pleats of the same material used on the under tunic. - - The join should be at the back of the wearer’s neck, this may be sewn into the under tunic arms if constructed as a separate layer

Pants:

Basic:
- Plain black denim pants should be a regular fit and not tight on the wearer, they should feature a uniform sheen consistent with the screen used pants, this may be achieved by using resin coated or wax coated denim

Gloves:

Basic:
- The gloves are form fitting leather or leather like material, they have 4 lines sewn into the hand on the outer edges and 2 at the top of the palm.
- The tops have minimum of two lines wrapping the top of the knuckles and lines that are vertical with two small piping lines, they intersect at the joints of the fingers with another piece of leather that is as wide as the knuckle leather. On the index finger there is an indented design rather than a horizontal piece of leather.

Level 2:
- Gloves are made of real leather and feature accurate palm stitching details

Boots:

Basic:
- Boots are made of leather or leather like material. There are 4 lines/straps (1 Inch) across the front vertical on the boot, these can be made to look as though they are pulling the boot together or just be straps. They are attached to stirrups.
- There are two straps at the top holding the boot closed, they are approx 1 inch apart and they have two square silver buckles at the sides. - There are two more straps at the bottom holding to boot together with identical buckles holding.
- There are pleats on the sides of the boots and you can see approx 4 poking from the side of the stirrup covers.
- There are also three to four pieces of leather wrapping around the heel of the boot.

Level 2:
- Boots are made of real leather and feature a tapered sole at the front

Belt:

Basic:
- Constructed of 5 inch black leather featuring two 1/2” straps at the top and bottom of the belt featuring a buckle that matches the screen used buckle.

Level 2:
- Constructed of full grain heavy leather with accurate weathering on the 1/2 inch straps. It should be seamless at the back and feature a velcro closure behind the front buckle
- The buckle should be screen accurate, painted semi-gloss black and feature accurate damage
- The belt should be adorned with an accurate saber clip replica mounted on approximately 2-3 inches back from the wearer’s right hip and be painted and weathered to accurately replicate the original saber clip, it should feature countersunk hex screws (top) and round top black leather rivets (bottom).

Lightsaber (Optional for approval):
A crossguard saber which is painted silver at the top and fades to a much darker or "worn" color. There is a red wire on the saber and it has a red disk at the bottom. The saber is worn looking and has visible wear and tear.

IMO it will not be approvable. Outer material is not even close to the screen used. Belt bucket is completely wrong, Size and shape of hood are wrong. The pleats do look decent though. Might be a good comic con or Holloween costume.

Its a decent Halloween costume, but for the 501st, I doubt it if it would be approvable, unless with a lot of modifications. For one, the screen Kylo pants are denim and they are not pleated like the CB pants. The CB costume also lacks the inner knee length tunic which is fully pleated. There's just not enough layers here.

Post-fitting looks great! Huge difference- What helmet/boots are you using? I ordered one from Costume Base as a base costume (???) and I'm working on accessorizing. I got the Force FX saber from Target (it's wicked awesome).

Thanks! I'm using the Wickedarmor Helmet and Anakin/sith boots.

Could you tell us what alterations you had done? Those last photos look amazing.

had the sides tapered in to fit my frame more, more velcro added to the belt for a snugger fit, placed a bendable wire thru the edge of the hood for shaping, and had the sleeves brought in closer to cling to my arms more. It'll due till i get more upgrades. :)
